You are in "Black Gumbo Mud" territory are you not?
You know, the stuff that seems like it was oozed from the Stygian depths of Satan's *******.....
If so, you really need to forget about any sort of AT(All Terrain) type tire.
There are no words to describe how poorly those will perform in that nasty ass black clay.
Your dad's recommendation has merit and is most likely based on years of experience.
Sometimes it pays to listen to the old dudes and learn from their mistakes.
Even if you do not go with those Buckshot Mudders, you need to go with the most aggressive tread pattern you can tolerate within your price range.
Stay away from the metric sizing (more expensive for some reason) and stick to the 'ol 12.50x33x16.
My personal recommendation would be the Good Year MTR's with Kevlar.
Mine are wearing exceptionally well with over 25K on them.
I do a 5 tire rotation and re-balance every oil change/5,000 miles (Free at Discount Tire).
They still handle well and are not much noisier than those useless ass Bridgstones that came on it from the factory.
So far they have performed very well in both the black clay and sandy loam types of mud I have in my area.
No hydroplaning issues and they have worked well in the light snowy conditions we sometimes get....If it is Icy, then stay the **** home....They absolutely suck big hairy monkey balls on ice.
Also, it appears that Good Year has lowered their pricing quite a bit.
What I paid $340.00 for last year is now going for $289.00 at 4WP Warehouse.
