Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

They never got back to me, but no big deal. too much work for a temporary project to pursue it.

    Clickity clack noise

Ugh. Well, to my dismay, the broken U joint was NOT the problem. After replacing the joint, the clickety clack remains. Can only be one thing, RCV joints are toast. The fun part starts next weekend, tearing the axles apart. RCV's are known to be a huge PITA to remove and install. Let's...

    Clickity clack noise

Have been dealing with a clickity clack noise for about a year. It has been progressively getting worse. The noise is only there when in Hi or Lo Lock when steering is more than 1/4 turned. Everyone said it is the RCVs, "they always click when they age", hence the reason for the excessive...

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

Lessons learned. After a couple of hours degreasing and cleaning up the axle housing, I came to he realization the the GMT-800 axles don't have ABS sensors in the rear. SMH, the one little thing I didn't research. I have 3 GMT-800's in the driveway and a simple crawl on my back would have...

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

That's good news. I did reach out to Yukon, but no answer yet on a run of H3 axles. They are soooo close to a half-ton unit that I would think the cost would be minimal.

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

Kind of easy but it still requires a complete rebuild with new parts. The benefit of the half-ton unit is that the R&P and locker will drop right in. That'll cost $1800+ for any other axle.

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

One of the guys I know has 8 lug rear 6 lug front and 6 lug spare. He carries a 8 to 6 lug adapter if he gets a flat to get him off the trail. An option until I do the D60 front.

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

Correct, would only need to use new lug nuts if the flange holes are different. Could not find those dimensions.

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

My end game is a 14b, but, if $500 can buy me a year or so it's worth it. But for anyone not looking to follow Squeaky, the 1500 axle may be a key to keeping the H3 on the trail a bit longer at minimal cost. More to come, I ordered a 1500 axle to take measurements and compare to the H3.

Replace rear axle with a half ton unit?

Has anyone looked into replacing the complete rear axle with a Silverado 1500 unit? When looking for a new spare axle shaft I am finding the GM half tons are 99% the same (if I read correctly). WMS H3 is 65.5" and 1500 is 67.5" R&P are same part numbers per Yukon. Tone rings are both 55...

    Dream H3 w/diesel

I spend a lot of time traveling back and forth to Texas with the wife's Suburban with the baby Duramax. Man I love this engine, can only dream of what this could have been in the H3. Cruise control on 80 and getting over 21MPG and at these prices. Can't wait for the permanent move.

    Rascole's SAS build

Santa from Rock Auto made a special delivery, last of the big ticket items needed for the swap. Engine should be done in a few weeks then need to nail down a date to start pulling out parts. Going to wait until closer to summer have a couple trips planned to the desert yet this spring.

    Year in Review

As always, BSW was the highlight of the year. A close second was a run we call Big Bear Ironman Challenge, 4 camping/overland trips and a bunch of local trails and meet-ups. Finally found a good donor L92 motor for the V8 swap, in the shop now, and should be done by the time we get home from...
