Can I use the upgraded factory "monsoon" door speakers in a non monsoon H3?

Also I think the monsoon and non monsoon systems share the same tweeters in the a pillar. I only found one part number for them.

you probably can, but I think the monsoon system is amplified so it may not be as simple as swapping speakers.

don't quote me on that though.

As long as the impedance is the same they should function OK. Monsoon speakers probably draw more current than the stock spkrs so may not be very loud without an amp, but that's just a guess.

i actually found a similar thread from a few years ago, and i posted up that the sub was the only thing amplified since it the sub was mounted next to the amp. lol, I don't know what I'm talking about.

However, crutchfield says that the plugs on the monsoon speakers are different. don't know why.

maybe the monsoon head unit puts out more watts?

Don't waste your time on factory speakers. Cheap. If you need to replace your old ones or are looking to upgrade your current. Most aftermarket name brand speakers will be better for a reasonable price.

When I bought my 08 H3 Alpha the previous owner changed the Monsoon system out for around a thousand dollars. He did keep the stock stereo but changed all the speakers to JL Audio TR650 6.5" Door Speakers, JL Audio TR050-CT Dome Tweeters and a Rockford Fosgate PDS32-8 8" PUNCH P3S Subwoofer he also changed the Amp to a Rockford Fosgate Amp. Not sure of the model # or Amprage of the Amp but the system really kicks ass... I would go with something like I have. You can get great sound for a good price...

Well I got my order from Amazon today... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1449165334.536590.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1449165343.872469.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1449165353.524886.jpg

I ordered two of the "Monsoon" speakers. I only opened one box and that is what I found.

The sticker on the box has the right part number but obviously that is the regular speaker and it is completely messed up.

I'm going to return these and get a refund.

I ordered the JL TR 650 components speakers a couple weeks ago for the front doors, but they don't fit the adapter bracket that Crutchfield said they would fit... So I returned those because I didn't feel confident in just screwing them into the door panel.

So hopefully I can find a good set that will fit the brackets that I got.

I'm hoping that the only thing in the monsoon system that is amplified is the subwoofer.

I am 99.999% sure the Monsoon speakers are amplified and the speakers are the same as non-monsoon. Good choice on the JLs, the stock stuff is cheap and I wouldn't use them even if someone paid me.

I've never had reason to open my amp space, but my Service Manual for '07 H3 show Premium (Monsoon) Speakers shows six speakers plus a two-driver subwoofer, all connected to the amplifier.

I installed some Rockford Fosgate 6.75 speakers in the front doors today. I had to cut some tabs off the speaker adapter to make them fit. I was worried that I might have to get an amp to give these speakers enough power, but my Kenwood head unit powers then good enough for my tastes.

Overall I'm really impressed with these speakers.

Well I ran into some trouble today. I drove home from lunch and the speakers were working. 30 minutes later I got into the H3 and I got this message on my Kenwood headunit; "Miswiring DC Offset Error."

7FE088C4-69B6-4B39-B9B6-ECB57C5983F8_zps22wxxl0h.jpg

But the headunit still connected to my phone via bluetooth and acted like it was playing a song, but nothing was coming out of the speakers. The volume buttons didn't even display a number increase or decrease upon hitting them. So I reset the headunit and the same message appears and the speakers don't work.

So I googled the error message and it said "
A speaker cord has shorted or it has come into contact with the car
chassis."

So I'm like oh crap I have to take off my door panels again and fix the connectors.

Anyway long story short my speaker connectors in both front door speaker had water in them. It rained pretty good all day yesterday and some last night. The inside of the doors were dry, just the connectors had water on them somehow.

This connector:

So I dried them off, put some dielectric grease on them, and then wrapped them in electrical tape to try to keep it from happening again. I thought about covering the connectors in liquid tape but I couldn't find my bottle. I also pulled the radio fuse and it was good. Anyway now the speakers work again:sigh:

Then i was going to install two new rear door speakers but after removing a door panel and losing a panel screw I found out that the speakers I bought do not fit the aftermarket adapter bracket.:shame:It's close, but there is no way. The speakers that don't fit are the Rockford Fosgate R1675x2. I have Rockford Fosgate P1675-S component speakers in the front doors that fit with the same aftermarket adapter that I tried to use for the R1675x2s today.

So I ordered the Rockford Fosgate P1675 3 way 6.75 inch speakers for the rear, that will hopefully fit the same bracket that the P1675-S speakers fit into.

I'll let y'all know how they do.

Well this morning they don't work and I got the same error message again.

I bought some liquid tape so my plan is to dry the connectors some how and seal them up with liquid tape...

I installed some new 6.75 3 way Rockford fosgate speakers in the rear doors and they are really nice. It took about ten minutes per door to install.

FWIW, the base and monsoon speakers are different. I've had them side by side (a long time ago). I think the impedance of the monsoon speakers is half of the base speakers and there is an external amplifier.

Well the speakers stopped working again. I got the same miswiring Dc offset error on the head unit. So I pulled the fuse again(didn't look bad) and put a new fuse in and the speakers worked for like one minute and then stopped and the error message came up.

So I took my drivers side door panel off and found a lot of water droplets on the speaker and wires... So I guess I can't roll down my window after it has rained...

I'm going to try to dry it out and cover all the connectors with liquid tape.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar after replacing the factory speakers?

All of the speakers had water dripping on them. I took all the door panels off and I covered all of the connectors with liquid tape. Then when I was reinstalling the last speaker, I noticed that it cut off when fully installed into the door panel. It was like if you push it back far enough it was pinching a wire or something, and if you pulled it out just a little, then it would start playing again. Well it turns out that one of the speaker screws was contacting the metal door panel and shorting it out. You can actually see in one of the pictures where the screw has scuffed up the paint. Well I unscrewed that bottom screw and cut a little bit of the screw off so it wouldn't touch anymore.

Hopefully that is the last time I have to pull all of the door panels off again.

Seems like you are getting a lot of water in your door. I would try to solve that problem before it becomes a bigger issue.
