Looking for winch suggestions and reviews. Looking for a winch to mount on a custom fabbed winch plate like the CBPhoto or a (CBPhoto if I decide to be lazy) but it also needs to fit in a BA bumper if I ever come across one. I want to keep it under $1000 but would preferer to keep it under $800. Currently I am looking at the Mile Marker SEC9.5. Thanks!

Can't help with the winch, but the CB plate is a great idea; just don't try and install it yourself.

If you go with a CP plate, make sure to get the frame reinforcement plates from TheBroken to strengthen the D-ring location mount.

I have that winch (milemarker SE9500c): it came with the BA bumper. Not a great winch IMHO... easily overheats halfway though the job leaving you stuck. But... seems to be a whole lot more affordable than the Warn winches.

Maybe it is just me, but out in the middle of nowhere, with not other vehicles, and you get stuck up to your lower door openings in mud, and you want to trust a winch from Harbor Freight? Be my guest. I don't always believe that the more you spend the better the item, but I do believe there are times when the more you spend on a brand name, known proven component is well worth the money.

either way you go I strongly recommend the frame plates from Ridge Demon once you pull off your bumper you will see how tin and weak the factory mounts r. these plates r cheap insurance deff a must have if your mounting/using a winch.

I think I will be going with the Recon 10.5 of off ebay I have heard very good reviews and for the price you can't beat it. Or maybe the new Warn XP.

If you get any with synthetic rope make sure you get a cover. The sun eats ups the rope over a short time if left exposed.

I got a Smittybilt one from 4Wheelparts & it seems to do good. Picked it up just before my Black Mnt trip in May & it got a work out there. We did alot of winch work on day 2, it pulled 5 H3's up a section of hill w/ no problems. Also used it to pull a Explorer hitched to a 15ft bass style boat full of water out of beach sand in the surf line.

Just want to throw this out there.... The Warn PowerPlant is freakin' awesome! Winch and Air Compressor in one unit. It's strong, and it fits perfectly on the CBphoto Highmount. Don't know about the BA Bumper....

Honestly no need for the compressor as I already have an ARB compressor and its way to big for the BA bumper. How do you like your Viking synthetic line?

I love my Warn M8000 winch. It's simple and has never had trouble tugging me or any other rig out of a situation. I have never had it overheat either.

I can't say enough about the frame plate supports from TheBroken - I had the CBPhoto high mount plate on the front of the truck for a couple pulls before I could put the frame plate supports in and I managed to distort the factory plates. The supports from TheBroken will really strengthen up the front end for pulling.

my milemarker SE9500c lasted about two weeks before it burnt up I replaced it with a warren 9500 ti .

There goes my confidence in the Mile Marker, anyone know the difference between the SE9500C and SEC9.5B? Looks like I might as well spend a couple bucks more and go with a Warn.

This is one area I will NOT cut corners on. It's not just another mod to add. this is safety equipment also. As Doug said, if you are in the middle of bfe, you want something reliable, something that will not burn up, short out, etc. Both Warn and Superwinch are two trusted brands out there. I have used Warn for the most part on mine. Will be using Warn again on my current build with synth. winch line, daystar rollers and have a spare line with extension as well. No steel cable to cut/ stab you and the synth. winch line will not store energy like steel cable. Not to start a debate over steel vs synth, but I do prefer the synth for weight savings and safety. I had 2 spare 9500xp cables left over and just sold them. I decided to have a synth line spare instead.

Warn hands down with Master Pull synthetic winch line and aluminum fairlead. If you buy cheap it will fail you when you most need it.

Thanks Tim & Recon, I planned on adding synthetic line with what ever winch I decided on for safety reasons.

There is a fair amount of room in the BA, so probably a good array of sizes will.

easily overheats halfway though the job leaving you stuck.

BTW, I just talked to a tech over there (I'm in the middle of rebuilding mine), and if you power the winch out (rather than spooling it out), it uses the brake and overheats a lot quicker. He also said to make sure to use it intermittently and let it cool down in between usage. Those tips should help but I'd still say it overheats pretty easy.
