Who's running what winch?

Got mine finished today. I'm a beginning welder so nobody gets to see pics of my welding . it went pretty smooth though, the holes on the Cbphoto winch plate needed to be reamed a little wider apart to match the holes on the recon, and I had to cut out a cross member on my grill guard. I'll try to find some of the same material to weld in a little higher.

The holes on the winch plate fit my recon to a T. I had checked before and found it has the same bolt pattern as the recommended Warn. I also had to grind down that cross member on the grill; the width the reinforcment plates added made it impossble to put the bumper/grill where it needed to be. For the reinforcement plates, I had to bevel them to get them to clear the original plates welds and fit flush against the original plates. In the end it worked out great! Since I don't weld I had some of the local rock crawler guys throw the plates on for me :)

I'm still running the MM-9500 that came on my BA bumper. The bumper is long gone but, the winch is still around. Its starting to rust a tad so I will pull it this winter and do a lube/paint/fresh-up to it. I'm thinking of moving it to my Suburban and getting a new one for the H3. I really like the new variable speed, water-proof models from MM.

Earlier in this thread, the conversation jumped to a debate about the price of winches and I wanted to comment on that. The price of a winch has very much to do with where it is manufactured. Ramsey, Warn, and MileMarker are the only US-made winches that I'm aware of...and they are priced accordingly. In the last five years I've seen some huge improvements in the Chinese/Mexican/Australian winches, and there have been several companies spring-up out of nowhere that seem to have very nice products. This has led the US-made companies to carry their own "off-shore" product line for the budget minded wheelers...in addition to their "premium" state-side models.

I know several guys that are very happy with Smittybuilt XRC's, and it seems the imported winches have really raised the bar. Ten years ago, a $300 winch was a piece of crap. No so nowdays!

Hello There --

I'm also looking for the BEST Wench made for the H3 .... I have a busch Guard, and wonder if that will cause installation problems? Recommendations on a Shop to install ... ? Or Lord forbid a Hummer Dealer? ( PIC added below ).

Which one suits you better is the better one. The doi is hidden and compact where the cb photo one is mounted up high and visible both have pros and cons

I picked up the Warn VR1000, mauling over a couple of ideas for a winch mount or bumper. at the begining stage with research of materials and plans, to see if its a better idea just to buy a store bought mount. But i do like my ideas! Thanks for the links cgalpha.

BIG THANKS for Links CGAlpha08 ..... The Predator seems like the best choice, a cleaner look ? Are they all same power wise? Could the cable break while pulling something and rebound back at your windshield .. ?!?!

I don't remember if the predator comes with a winch or not, but each of these mounts will fit a wide variety of different winches.
