What happens to the amp draw with a $30 snatch block? Haven't measured the amp draw but it could be half. Line speed would be half, amperage should be half also.

I would think it would effectively turn the 8000 lb pull numbers into the 4000 lb pull numbers. Makes you realize how important a snatch block can be in a real situation.

I carry two and sometimes 3 snatch blocks for turning applications of the cable and helping the winch.
Another thing about the WarnPP 12,000 and 9500 is the line speed is faster on the 9500.
I have not done alot of "muddin" with the H3 but my old Landcruiser wagon did lots of "winchin" with an old Warn 8000 of me and others and we learned alot of things during that time.
As mentioned the hydraulics were great on the farm but not so great if you are crossing streams.
Concealed winches with limited access can be a problem.
I remember in the 70's a Sidewinder winch came out and was mounted up under the bumper on a Chevy Blazer and the first time that guy got stuck he had to get down in the mud and try to clear up a cable override. I finally winched his winch cable out for him.
Some of these new designs with the protected solenoids are a great improvement too.
I like my Powerplant as my primary winch and ready to go compressor. I added a 2.5 gallon tank.
I use the 9500 ti now for the rear when needed.
Not sure some of this is now on here or not but for new people here are some options.

With a snatch block you actually double the pull of a winch. So the distince covered half or the pull takes twice as long. But the load on the motor will be lower and the amp draw will be lower.

Recon impressions: it weighs 65 pounds, looks like good quality. The supplied mounting hardware is junk though. I'll replace it when I get the frame reinforcements welded on. The wired and wireless remotes work fine. I cut off the old battery terminals and replaced them with military style ones. Got the High Mount powder coated semi gloss black, it looks sweet! Now just have to pull something!

September 14-16 here in Indy is the 4WP-Off Road Jamboree....

http://familyevents.com/

If you haven't been to one of these events...they got tons of vendors on site and most of em have fantastic deals on parts. These companies bring semi-trailers full of parts and basically sell them off the back the truck...cash & carry. Three years ago I got a Warn M8000 for $400...new in the box. Pitbull and BFG are usually there, and the walk-up deals cannot be beat anywhere. Admission is around $20 but, you can save way more than that by avoiding shipping...especially on a big, heavy stuff like winches, wheels, lift-kits, tires, etc.

The promo video is centered around the Monster Truck competition but, they also have a rock garden, diesel-pulls, mud-drags, tough-truck, drive-up dyno testing, show-trucks, and vendor's midway, (all of which is hardly mentioned). There's a lot to do and killer deals on parts! If you've got nothing going on...take a road-trip, grab a hotel, or camp at the fairgrounds. Its a good time and a great way to score some cheap parts.

Got the reinforcement plates installed today! The good folks at FU2 welded them on. A little work was needed so they fit flush against the original plates, but its all done !

Got mine finished today. I'm a beginning welder so nobody gets to see pics of my welding . it went pretty smooth though, the holes on the Cbphoto winch plate needed to be reamed a little wider apart to match the holes on the recon, and I had to cut out a cross member on my grill guard. I'll try to find some of the same material to weld in a little higher.
