H3T Side Airbags!

So I was driving and this explosion happens and I'm locked in place and onstar is on the line asking if I'm ok. What the hell?! I was on the street turning on to my street and I went over a rather significant bump in the road and I guess it tripped the sensor? Ive read about this so many times and I've dreaded the thought of this happening to me, but off to the dealer AGAIN tomorrow morning and thank god it's the dealer I love and trust,I just hope it dosnt take ages for them to determine it was a faulty sensor. I'll go back and read up more about the other experiences but it seems no one is immune from this glitch/fault, I'm running a 09 T Alpha -rant over-

That's terrible. That could be a real safety hazard. Does anyone know which fuse to pull to disable the airbags? And are they all on one fuse by themselves?

27, it's the SIR one i pull that fuse off road only not on the road and yes it's all on 1 fuse

Good luck. It took me well over a month for gm to give in and they still never found the problem. Was it the side airbags or the roll over air bags?

GM has fixed a number of these. They usually deny the claim first.hopefully you filed a police accident report to verify you were on a paved road. Not sure if the NTSB ever got involved with this but it is a known defect. There are threads on other Hummer forums dealing with this issue also.

The police weren't involved but OnStar knows where I was and I contacted them after the incident so its on file and the dealer knows about it. They are going to figure out what to do, my rep needs to talk to her boss etc etc.

Yes it was but it was nice to be cuddled by the seatbelt, I felt safe, I guess that counts for something.

Some people have suffered skin burns and hearing loss from the air bag deployment. Glad you came out of your incident in good shape.

Was that "rather significant bump" a Prius or some idiots Jeep? That's happened to me twice since I put the 37's on the deuce, but thank God my airbags didn't blow!

go back and say your going to get lawyers involved, i would make there life a living hell until they got it back, maybe your the one to start a class action lawsuit and other hummer owner that have had this happen to them will join in and get gm to cover it!

Tell them you have wheeled your truck but weren't when the sensors failed. NTSB is bound to have data on this defect by now. Report it to them. GM knows this is a problem. Hell the UCP damage could have occurred after you lost control when their faulty sensors set off your airbags.

You need to file a complaint with NTSB. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/index.xhtml There are a number of complaints already (search make and model then go to the bottom of the page and filter "air bags") I don't know how many complaints they have to get before they open an investigation. Also let GM know that you are aware of the large number of complaints. GM will do all they can to avoid accepting responsibility because they are trying to avoid a recall.
