H3 hummer Cruise control issues

Reviving an old thread before I start a new one.

I'm having the same issue: cruise/compass/temp fuse decided to blow one day. I've replaced the fuse 2 times (10). It will be good for 4-14 days and then it blows again. Also, I'm at 61,xxx on the odometer.

I've done absolutely nothing to the vehicle regarding electrical.

Anybody ever figure out this ever-growing common issue?

Ever growing, common issue might be a stretch for this 2 1/2 year old thread . But I am curious how this got resolved, or if it was resolved, for the others.

My Issue has not been resolved. Been wanting to fix this issue for the last couple of years. Surely there is an expect on this forum who has attempted to solve this.

Did you ever try replacing the turn signal/cruise control stalk on the steering wheel like was suggested 4 years ago by 4speed? Or at least check the connections on it?

If you are blowing fuses, the issue should be obvious. Most likely a short somewhere. H3’s are famous for corrosion underneath the fuse box, and rodents love to build a nest at this location. Mice & chipmunks love to eat the insulation off the wires, and their piss is highly corrosive.

I would start by removing the fuse box and checking the connectors. Specifically the small pins on the wiring harness connectors, where they plug into the bottom of the fuse box. These large connectors are engineered to be as complex and troublesome as possible. There are rows of micro-pins inside them and several times I have found pins bent over sideways inside the plugs. This happens when someone forces the plug into place. This can cause the intermittent issue you’re describing.

Bingo! CBetts is probably on the money on the bent pin. When my cruise stopped working my compass was also out. I kept blowing fuses. I pulled the fuse box apart and a pin was bent interrupting the circuit. Straightened the pin, replaced the fuse and now I have cruise and the compass
