I picked a pair of these up a little while ago to use in the cargo area of the H3 for gear.

With a little modification, they fit perfect and look like they were designed for use in the H3. Someone......... :shifty:..........Amanda has been asking me for a few days now to get the second installed and take some pictures. So today at lunch, I worked on installing the 2nd box.

Got a chance to put my recovery gear in one of the boxes the other day but didn't get a chance to fill the other box I installed today

I know you were asking me that before and I ran out of time at lunch to check. Matter of fact, I didn't even get to eat lunch :sigh:. I will messure it for you after work or first thing it the morning.

thats pretty cool. I might keep my eyes open for a set of those. I like the construction of the tuffy box I have but it does take up quite a bit of room.

how sturdy are they mounted there? I would just be worried they would rip off from my dog messing with them.

With the fender washers, it places the stress on a larger surface area then just the head of the bolt. I only mounted them in two locations and they are secure but you could easily add two more mounting bolts toward the bottom.

I now know what my storage solution is going to be now, these two units with a drawer in the midde, or a drawer spanning the whole width and these two just 1 on top

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I bought 2 of these boxes to put in the back of my H3 (just like SolarFlare did). Does anyone have any clue how he got the rail off of the box without damaging it? It appears to be riveted, which surprised my expectation of an easy unscrewing. I'm PM'ed SolareFlare, but it doesn't look like he posts much anymore. Really like what he did with the boxes though! Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!

The rail is indeed riveted to the box. You could either grind the rivets off or use a cut-off wheel to cut the rails down without damaging the box but the rail will then be history. 08solarflare left the rails on and later sold the boxes. If you remove the rail and later want to resell the box, I would have to say that the resale value of the box won't be worth much because you won't be able to find the rail used and it would be cheaper to just buy the box with the rail. I suppose if you wanted to, you could buy the H3T aluminum bed rail, cut it to match the length of the box and fasten it to the rear wheel well somehow and then clamp the box down on it but that bed rail will probably set you back about $150-200. Not worth it in my opinion.

Greatly appreciate the feedback, gents! I was actually considering searching for the bed rails and attaching them to the rear side panels, but it doesn't look like they'd fit properly (ie rails are too high blocking the rear cubbies). At this juncture, I'm not overly concerned about the rails. I would just like the boxes to fit flush against the side panels as depicted in Solars other thread:

From my understanding of what it looks like and what he wrote, I thought he screwed the boxes to the rear panels? As white trash as this may sound, I was thinking of some heavy velcro strips to prevent a permanent fixture in the event I need increase storage capacity temporarily. Dunno if it'll work, but priority #1 is getting the rail off (no pun intended...ha).

Take a drill bit just about the same size as the rivet pin and drill it. Once you go about a 1/8" into the rivet the head should pop and the rivet will come out

Seriously appreciate the info!!! I'm not a super handy man, but I'll give the drill bit technique a whirl and see where it lands me.
