That sounds about right. How did that break down? If you had $4500 in the engine, I would guess you would have another $3500-$4000 in parts and even 80 hours at $75 and hour would be on the light side for a labor estimate.

Just curious how it broke down.

That was for the new 2014 5.3L V8, the electronics would be really expensive and he would have to find parts from all over instead of one source. He told me that I would have to have two computer, and that would be a pain. I'm not sure exactly how its broken down.

We're planning on getting a salvaged alpha, so if anything is needed he already has it. Not to mention I could upgrade my suspension and the flood damage that is there can be replaced without any extra cost.

Highly doubt it is even possible to run two different computers. New one for me. Helped with swaps before, but that has never been brought up. Older system to new system. They will not communicate.

This is what his 5.3 guy told him. I have no idea whether it's true or not. But either way I can't afford it.

As far as I know, and have been around GM for quite awhile. It is not possible to run two different systems. If they can show me, might believe it. Think you are getting smoke blown up your ass. New cars/trucks the computers are a bitch. Years ago, you could pull some stuff off. Now, unless it is 100% electronics. Good luck. Just trying to help.

My mechanic said that he didn't believe that it would work, and if it did it would be a complete pain in the butt. He said not to do it and that it wouldn't be worth it.

No problem. I'm still hoping you can do a 6.2 or 6.0 swap lol.

I have a 5.3 and I want more power...

I plan on keeping my 3 for a very long time, and if and when I have 15-20k to play around with I plan to do an engine swap.

and the really big dividing line is between 2007 and 2008.... it's actually easier (in some cases) to run separate systems - a motor system, a transmission system, and a body system (completely with their own sensors).

I'd be excited to see someone do a swap like that without going to mash motors. But it's not an option for me anymore. Hopefully I can just get this 5.3 in!
