Yup, I'm back, like it or not....

I've been in El Centro for 3 months now but the RV park hasn't had useable wi fi until last week and I was too lazy to go over to the coffee shop on base so I just checked out of the internet for awhile.
We took an offer for the sale of our house in Florida last week so my wife and daughters will be here at the end of the school year.
It's been a good three months holed up here on NAF El Centro Naval base with all the wintering senior citizens. The weather has been impressively mild and now I understand why they flock out here in droves from all their cold climate states. I do miss being around younger people, I really miss that, so looking forward to getting my family here.
I've run the deuce out in the desert a little bit though holding back so I don't break anything with nobody around. Anza Borrego is beautiful, looking forward to meeting up with some members to do a run out there. Also looking forward to catching up with Zach in the near future, though for the life of me I can't remember why.......

Yup, I'm in El Centro right now, doesn't feel anything like California, I'm on the wrong side of the mountain with San Diego on the other side. This is more like property Arizona didn't want so California got stuck with it. I'm 59 miles west of Yuma and very close to Glamis. Lots of off road activity all around me, it's not uncommon to see trophy trucks, or like last weekend have one fly past you at warp speed doing test runs. I've been wanting an enduro for a long time and I believe my time has come.

Summer is f'ing hot east of the "mountains" there. What does that mean you didn't want SoCal but got stuck with it? Thought you were out of the military and could go anywhere you wanted?

No, I've learned you've always got options in life, so I didn't get stuck here. I just decided I like expensive things and need to pay for them, so having a good paying job even in an unexpected location is better than living in paradise with no job!
I actually don't mind it here at all, I'm just concerned about my wife adapting to the desert and living in a less populated area. It is cool to have San Diego less than two hours away and Phoenix at just 4 hours away. There's lots to do with a little driving in every direction (Vegas in 5 hours), and having unfettered access to going crazy in the desert is appealing. People drive hours to come here to play in the desert and sand dunes, so it's kind of nice to already be here.

Funny you mention this----I was out bombing through the desert one day and stopped to talk to a race team about a really cool buggy their planning on running in the Mint 400 in Vegas, I looked over at the deuce and instead of seeing it covered with dust, it actually looked good and the chrome was shining really brightly. Kind of embarrassing to be in the desert and still looking good; try that **** with your blacked out trucks boys!

I was able to get a job because I'm willing to go where nobody seems to want to stay. I'm good with unlimited access to the desert, Anza Borrego, San Diego, Mexico and areas in between.
Some people see it as a challenge, I see nothing but opportunity and room for improvement!

We've got the mountains going to San Diego less than 40 miles away that I can go hide in, as well as San Diego to help get through the summers. So far this winter has been worlds better than Florida where the wife and kids are right now. Florida--27 this morning, El Centro--52 and warming up by 8.

Might hit 37 down here and currently a wind chill advisory according to my app on phone lol. Down here were kinda funny, it hits 60 and were freezing busting out the winter gear lmao...folks up north getting slammed, their in for some real cold hope they hang in there ok.
