From the console all you need to do is remove the shifter, the center console easily pops off and you have access to the park release.

I havent been on here since all these posts but best4x4 is on the money. I even made a video, no driveshaft pulling no console removing etc. It took me 3 seconds....

My wife's 2006 Chrysler 300 has a similar button. You access it by removing the storage box portion of the console, and reaching in with your hand. Basically, you open the lid...grab a Phillips screwdriver and remove a couple screws...lift out the "box"...and the button is right there. Not sure if this method works on the H3...but you might try it before you tear the entire console apart.

I seriously doubt if anyone at GM has enough brains to design-in a feature like this.

actually, no tools - you pry the boot ring, pull the boot up and push the button...

of course, there is a slight other issue - if you want to steal a H3 or Colorado, you simply pop the boot, push the button, then tow the vehicle away since there is not steering column lock.

Yep thats exactly what I've done in the past. Quick n Easy!! I always use the ebrake, or block the wheels and your good to go.

If you think our H3's are bad checkout a 2014 Ram pickup with the knob shifter... If the key info gets lost you are 150% SOL, no linkage or anything except for flat spots on your tires... Friends 2014 Ram left him stranded like that 4 times!!! Each time it was dragged onto the flatbed.

It's shameful that GM was so terrified of liability that there's no mention of either release method in the Owner's Manual. Someone who's lost all power on the road is at the mercy of Bubba the Flatbed Driver. "Well, lady, your Hummer has a transmission lock and needs a special operation so's I can get it on the truck, and that'll cost you an extra hundred."

My Porsche's manual has detailed diagrams for releasing the trans and other vital release functions that an owner might need to use in a pinch.

None of my Jeep's had any info on it either. That's how I came up with my method. Of coarse the problem with the Jeep's was the linkage would fall off when off roading or during your daily drive. I thought it was extremely dangerous if it happened in a parking lot or when you thought you were in a certain gear but you actually weren't.. I made a mod that took care of the issue for good, but I was amazed it never was recalled.

If anyone drills their console, I hope they'll post a dimensioned layout for the hole.
