What's the secret to removing the dome light lens?

I feel embarrassed to ask, but I can't get at the bulbs in my front dome light to swap out the silly blue LEDs the P.O put in. The manual has about 100 pages on putting in a baby seat, but apparently they thought the interior light bulbs would have an infinite life. I can pull the whole fixture down, but when I try to use the the big tab on the end of the clear part to release the lens, it only comes down about 1/2" where it has a stop, and it snaps shut like a bear trap. Don't want to break damned thing...but I'm highly tempted!

Pry a flat head in between clear piece and plastic piece kinda pry it around and then try and get a good grab of it then kinda man handle it and it should pop out its not gonna break I have taken mine out quite a few time

pry cleanly though or the plastic will like dent from the screw driver

That's what I did, but there's little hook molded into the base fixture that catches on the clear piece and I can't get it open more than 1/2". I may just leave it because the crappy foam headliner is breaking down from the motion of the latching part on the clear piece and now I'm going to have to reinforce it so it closes tight.

I'd appreciate it. I don't want to break it. I assume the light is the same in in my T.
