I am contemplating weather or not to add extra lights in the future to the top of the H3 (Base 2008). I saw somewhere that the red optimus battery is preferred, and also saw someone that had 360 degree light pattern on the top of their mounting rack, with small lights positioned two on driver side, two on passenger side, two in rear, two in front. I Just want to see what other ideas are out there. Thanks! Pics would be helpful.
Also would another type of alternator be needed? (considering my ride gets a stereo upgrade as well)

Alternator depends on how much you're pulling. If you've got lots of big incandescents or a couple of big amps you may need the extra juice. If you're running a few LEDs and a conservative sound system, probably not.

I've plenty of lights - I have a 240v light bar, 9 LED side and reverse lights, two 6 LED corner lights, Halogen rock lights. I also run two compressors and a winch. I upgraded my alternator with a 200 amp from a 5.3 Avalanche. I'm going to run dual batteries - but more because I need to run my lights and not my motor for extended periods of time, so I'm installing a dual battery system with cross-jump capacity so that I can always start; but also get the dual battery voltage for when I need to run power tools off my inverter.

If you want to see the how-to, look at my H3 Alpha SAR in the build threads

It's a 2 but you get the point.

8 lights on top, 2 on the rear, Plus 1 lower fog light bar with PIAA's, LED DRL's which are bright as hell and my HID's.

They aren't HIDs. They are HID lookalike halogen off eBay. The color is awesome. White with a tiny tiny tiny bit of blue. I don't like the real blue ones. I read somewhere that leds are around 6000k so I got these to get close to the same color. They're not bad. I'd like to get HIDs but I'll never put them in a halogen housing and I'm not forking out the cash for projectors...

Stock alternator is 145 amps but you need some place to store the amps.
Exide Deep Cycle dual posts marine grade AGM. More cranking amps than starter batteries and are designed for repeated deep draw down and recharge and will work fully submerged, if that should happen the winch will still work hopefully before it sucks in water.
