Yup. Anytime the radiator cap is below the heater core...it creates an airlock in the heater core loop. This pretty much includes any vehicle made after 1995 or so. I had a 97 S-10 ZR2 that simply would not purge itself no matter what I did. I eventually filled it via the heater hose connected to a garden hose.

Replaced my battery and the positive battery terminal (negative was fine). Went with a pretty basic AutoZone gold one.
The old battery was definitely leaking acid, swollen, whole 9 yards.
Had to remove the whole battery box and wash it out to get all the acid off. Also wiped out under the tray as acid had leaked down there. I read online vinegar works well to neutralize battery acid? Not sure if that's true but I had it and used it as such.

Only question I have is, what's the pink stuff that's in the photo below? Tried scrubbing it off to no avail.

probably discoloration of the paint due to the acid spill. AT fluid will discolor white paint as well and won't come off.

I had the battery terminal replaced too. The stock terminal split into 2 pieces from the corossion, I only realized it happened when my truck wouldnt start in a parking lot.
Had someone turn the keys to start the truck while I was holding the cable directly onto the battery, once started I used zip ties to keep contact until I reached a mechanic to get replacement terminals instaled!

Just did a seafoam treatment, spark plug swap and upgraded to a universal 3 1/3" cone filter. Check out these nasty plugs. 137k on motor and maybe they have been changed once im guessing.

Rebuilding the factory e-locker in my 8.6 rear diff. I noticed some whining and sure enough...the pinion bearing was toast. Chunks of side gear no doubt contributed to the bearing wear...

New kit is $120 and comes with side gears, spider gears, locking pins, shims, and a new cross pin.

Spent the rest of my lunch money for the year and probably a good part of next year. Won't be able to do anything with it until late next summer while I get other things like the exhaust sorted and whatever incidentals needed to go with it.

Good luck! The engine prices have gone up considerably from last year!

I didn't think that was bad for an LS3 and I'll get a reasonable amount back for the 5.3.

I think i paid $6200 for the hot cammed ls3.

When you sell the 5.3, keep all the accessory brackets as well as the accessories with you as you will need them on the LS, otherwise you will waste alot of time tracking those.

Also sell the LS manifolds and reuse the 5.3 manifolds. The LS manifolds do come in 2 configs, drop down or directly to the rear, I got the ones that drop down thinking I could try to make them work but not really.

The LS waterpump will need a spacer to work with the H3 truck accessories so just reuse the 5.3 pump. The LS throttle body wont clear the truck waterpump so you will need the truck throttle body too.

I toyed with the LS3 idea for one of my H3's but decided to play with the little 5.3. I had pretty good luck previously with one in a 4X4 1500 SILVERADO? So far I have spent a little less than $4000 and I'm pretty sure it is not too much of a stretch to say we've achieved over 345 hp.. Wouldn't have spent that much but made a dummy mistake by selecting a cam that was too radical on the first try. After I've finished some serious wheeling to see how it works out, I'll post some part numbers etc.. I'm not a all worried about the tranny because I had already built it to exceed 4L70 specs.. Of course 430 hp. would be awesome, but so far the little bugger goes pretty good and sounds great even at idle.

Would love the info on the cam used. Thought about going that route but alot of conflicting information about which cam works. Picking up another H3 after the new year so not sure yet which one will get the ls3 yet.

Fnally got an alignment. The guy told me I needed a new driver side ball joint :gaah: I think he's lying 'cause I checked them 3 weeks ago. I'll check them again tomorrow and confirm or deny my suspicion. Is there a better way to check them other than shaking the wheel?

Yeah but you're not going to like it. Take your wheel hub and knuckle off to really check for excessive play.

Replaced battery with Optima Yellow Top group 34 (would've got with odyssey battery but the yellow top was only $130 with coupons, hope it works out)
Daystar dash organizer
New brakes and rotors (no more squeaking!)
Painted the plastic trim black since the grey was looking a little faded in some areas
Steelcraft Brush Guard came in as well

Patiently waiting on tires to wear out to get 35's.

I blacked out the mirrors and all the door handles with plasti dip, I also blacked out the factory chrome H3X brush guard and the lower front bumper and the covered fuel cap. I removed one of my Nerf bars because I like the looks better, but I've decided I need the nurf bars to get in and out of the truck, My wife has RA and struggles to get in it anyhow , without the bars she can't at all and I'm old enough to find it difficult myself so I put it back on and blacked them out also.
