so, does the rancho kit include the stuff to do SOA in the rear or is this an additional "upgrade"?

That's an additional upgrade. The rancho kit gives a new spring pack but they are still under axle. The upgrade they did was a different spring pack and made new mounting points on the axle (above instead of below) so the springs could be mounted on top of the axle

well one downside to a SOA is axle wrap...I am not to say it will happen if you are SOA but your likely hood is higher. There are many ways to answer it...simple advantage/disadvantage or complex, talk about every little detail.

do a google search and alot will come up. YJ's and CJ's were leaf sprung from the factory, so there is alot of talk about it.

Ahh ok, i assumed you could jus use the same axle and put the leaf springs over it and all you had to do was get some new shock mount plates and what not.

All the mounting points are going to be grinded off the axle and re located to the top. A new driveshaft is normally used because the pinion angle will be different. Also depending on how high you want it the spring hangers on the frame may be changed out too.

One of the mistakes IMHO to the SOA conversion GM did on there vehicles was they left the u-bolts facing down and exposed. A good SOA conversion would provide more clearance and less hang ups caused by the u-bolts and shock plate mounts we have (were we have to run skids).

It seems that whenever we come across an SOA conversion that's for sale it's been rolled.
But there actually the same H3, just been for sale twice . So I guess were 1 for 1 then on for sale ones but what about the other 3 or so out there that are not or have not been for sale? The GM ones probably never had VINS, so you will never see one of them for sale. Bebe has a SOA and that hasn't been rolled yet.

I think Bebe and speedy can provide insight on Soa's. I don't necessarily think a soa will cause rollovers. It's probably from driver error or tougher trails. If you have more suspension mods your probably pushing your truck harder too...

Hope this helps, refer to page 5. All you should need is the factory differential rear mounting bolt.

If you don't have it any more (not sure what was involved with Bebe's fix), you can get one from your local GM dealer of even the hardware store if you know the factory size. Serviceable diff bushing are a plus with the Rancho .

If you don't have the bolt, Zach should be able to tell you the size, thread pitch, and length with the GM catalogue. Then you can go to the hardware store and pick it up, just make sure it is grade 10.9.
