Tech 2 clone

My tech 2 clone finally got here. Took a few weeks to get it but it looks great so far. Now I just have to figure out how to use it properly lol. I was looking into scanners and most can't read anything but engine codes. Did some research on some other forums and a bunch of people have had really good luck with these clones.

I'll have more info this weekend. Haven't gotten a chance to play with it yet. Comes with 2 cds, the tis2000 software and instructions. The tis2000 needs to be installed on my laptop which will allow me to monitor pids, data log, etc

Got a chance to try it out today on my wife's Cadillac and my h3. She has been having an issue with her abs light coming on then going off. I suspected a wheel sensor but my blue tooth scanner wouldn't pick it up. Hooked up the tech 2 and scanned the brake module for codes and I got c0050 for the right rear abs sensor. Also I did a check of all 28 modules in the car and pulled some misfire codes even no CEL was on. The cool thing is that it records the event so you can see exactly what was happening at the time the code occurred. For instance the c0050 shows me steering angle, speed, and a whole bunch of other things. The misfire codes shows me engine speed (rpm), ect, iat, spark, o2, maf, etc.

My h3 has had a CEL on - po452. I wanted to check it with the tech 2. Well it pulls 3 codes, po455 (large evap leak), po442 (small evap leak), and po449 (vent solenoid control).

Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and capabilities. I don't see any reason why I won't be able to program modules, etc. I will need to get the tis2000 software loaded up for that.

I would like to look into one. Just for the fact that you can clear an any code. If you rip an abs wire you are screwed trying to get the t case outta 4 lo you would have to pull the encoder motor and do it manually.

If possible or at least lower the pressure on TPMS as low as possible. On Jeeps you can't turn off TPMS but can drop it to zero so it stops looking. :D

Yeah I'd love to hear about the TPMS as well. I honestly can't stand that stuff on any vehicle!!! I check my rig before I get in it, and I am always aware of my tires. I don't need a silly idiot light for it.... I disabled it on my 08 F150 when I was running aftermarket rims/tires and everyone was jealous of me lol. Lucky for me my Jeeps were 05's and never had it. Several friends with JK's just got used to having their rigs moon em (_!_) upon start up.......

Pretty sure they cannot be turned off, it is a safety thing with the government.

The tech 2 he has is a knock off Chinese one. They do work but for how long is the question. GM has a program to refurbish them, if a dealer sends a knock off one in they won't touch it and keep it. Apparently there have been GM dealers that have gone this route for it to be in the disclaimer for sending ones in. They do work only issue I have heard of is sometimes uploading software.

If it can be done other brands of vehicles, I don't see why it can't be done on the Hummers. Those brands also have to comply to government laws. More than turn it off, it's tricking the system to not look for it by lowering the pressure to zero.

Exactly it's still there, but basically blind.. Also when it come to uncle sam, I doubt they really care about safety.. If aired up tires are so dangerous I'm pretty sure we'd be running around on airless tires. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$. From sensors, to the special tools required for them, and replacement kits..... Great feature for people that just drive a car, but to a gearhead, or someone all about their rides it's a PITA!!!

TECH II Clone on Hummer H2

I’ve got one and it works perfect on my 08
A few of us have them….. works great! Can also get to things like the rear air ride (if yours has that) which no other tool can deal with.
That being said I’ve seen on other forums where some people have major issues with their clones. Best I can say is I got mine from http://www.chinacardiags.com and it works perfect.
It will come in handy sometimes. Now figuring out how to use all of the functionality will take a bit too. You can pretty much get right into diagnostics and whatnot pretty easy though. Programming takes a bit more as you will need to either install TIS2000 or pay for a short subscription to the ACDelco TIS system. TIS2000 is a pretty old program but does still have updates and whatnot for some things in our H2’s. The tricky bit is it runs on Windows XP. There is tons of info online about ways of getting that software installed and working though. The Tech2 will also come in handy for other GM vehicles as well and can give you a lot more info that most any other scan tool.

If I could have turned off the TPMS on the H3 I would have with a genuine 100% GM Tech 2. The TPMS system is designated by federal regs via the TREAD act (tread not for tires but an acronym for Transportation Recall Enhancement Accountability and Documentation). In the early days of the TPMS not many companies would attempt to override the system for any reason. I made suggestions to tie it to TC position, speed, etc., but to no avail, GM legal said NO. I do believe later in the game some manufactures have linked some TPMS features to an off-road setting or a TC position; not sure.

Can someone figure out how to do it on an H3? Sure, get someone who can handle all that code and not worried about a lawsuit if an accident happens due to a low tire pressure and it can be done.

I found this company that makes TPMS emulators for many domestic makes and models, even H2s but don’t list as supporting H3s. What’s different about an H3 signal that one of those listed wouldn’t work on an H3? Hate to pony up $100 to be let down. Read some people, strictly in the name of research, have made these but it required signal grabbing and deciphering code with expensive equipment and brains bigger than mine. Frustrating. Not a fan of TPMS.
