well maybe I will bring her then. Just the drive from the Valley up to Santa Clarita is a lot of work for my truck. I mean she climbs it just fine but I don't like to do it too much because jerks don't take kindly to a truck going like 40 up the hill lol.

So after work I took my truck on the freeway for the first time in over a month (I work about 5 miles from home and it's more convenient to not use it) and I'm not comfortable driving my truck on the freeway. the steering is too loose. luckily I got my Blue Hummer Steering/Suspension Tool Kit yesterday so I can change them soon. so I will be taking my Crown Vic unforunately.

Ok the case is dated 7/31/07 so no filling from the speed sensor hole correct?

Still trying to determine what fluid. I searched here and everyone has different opinions, I searched google and every hummer forum has guys with differing opinions. May just put dog piss in the case and call it a day :thumbs:

Its done! Woohoo! I want to thanks everyone who helped. Kyle and Expendable for helping out, Kyle for getting the lift for me and baby squeaky for the tow home. Also thanks to Zach, bebe and speedy for running me through procedures to get this going.

We did run through technical difficulties. I was rebuilding the front DS and have been running in 4hi locked with no front DS in. After finishing today the case was grinding, the sound I had when I ran 2wd when I took out my blown diff years ago and didnt know about the 4hi locked trick yet. I thought the case was destroyed and still broken after running through every procedure with bebe and speedy on the phone. I took a tow strap and baby squeaky and kyle towed me home on the street unsafe but I didnt want to waste a AAA tow home for 2 miles. So getting home I threw in the front driveline and it worked. Not sure what went on with the computer but I may pull the front driveline back out after and see if the computer now recognizes whats going on. Also went over to flex hill and holy ****! 4:1 just crawls. I used to have to hit the gas and run it up to 2500-3000 rpm to get up. Now its at 1100. Tap the gas and you go!

The reason is that the fluid for the t-case is very non-critical. Any proper viscosity GL-4 rated lube will work. I think the owners manual specifies manual trans fluid, doesn't it?

Have about 40-45 miles on the new case already. Used 4lo again and its plain stupid! (in an awesome way) I cant believe the difference between 4:1 and 2.64:1. So with the miles I have put on it so far I have not had any issues, which is great but its got me thinking. Now that the computer realizes that the front driveline is there but I plan to pull it out again and see if it does that bizarre bull**** that happened before where I have reverse but nothing else, lets say it does happen again is there a mechanism that holds the 50/50 split? I know that sounds weird but lets say 4lo or 4hi locked I have a 60/40 split like I do in 4hi unlocked due to some mechanism that enables the locked 50/50 split. I may be off my rocker on that but maybe some of you guys who have pulled these things apart who know if thats even a possibility. Just a thought and I guess we will find out tomorrow where the front DL comes out again. Wish me luck!

Btw, I still cant fathom doing this job in an hour. Speedy sure is quick and for any people doing this in the future, use speedy's method not mine! I took the entire front crossmember out and bebe told me he did not. If you wheel you will have one hell of a time getting that SOB crossmember back in. We spent probably an hour just getting that thing out and back in. My crossmember is beat to hell, the mounting ears that are welded onto the frame are bent and dented, some of the bolts are tough to get a socket on due to being scraped on rocks, etc. Hopefully there isnt a next time in the near future but if there is I am avoiding pulling out the crossmember.

Speedy sure is quick and for any people doing this in the future, use speedy's method not mine! I took the entire front crossmember out and bebe told me he did not. Ignore that is says the Application for the 4484 is for an H2....:techwriters: :shakinghead:

Center differential: planetary Differential control: openTorque split front/rear: 40/60

ie they are a set of planetary gears that engage to create the torque split. So when it's engaged the torque split is 50/50, when it's open, it's 40/60. Go pull out the T-case blow out so you can find where they are located. It will give you an idea on how they work.

I think, this would also include some type of override/release mode, unlocking the center diff (think Traction Control/Stabilitrac) so the whole thing doesn't explode when you are twisted up.
