Throttle postion sensor. Just replaced one in my van and life is good. Damn thing would get a weird idle all over the place, RPM would go all over the place, died a few times but start right up, occasionally jerk when stopping like somebody hit you from behind---mind you it didn't do all of this at once, or even all the time, it was just all over the spectrum and annoying as hell. Ran great on it's last road trip on the interstate, just ran like poop occasionally when started, and did all the above stuff randomly once put into gear at low speed.
New sensor was $30 and took about 20 minutes to replace on the van, but the damn thing was on the firewall side of the throttle body (inverted engine) and screws were a little hard to get at.
Maybe this isn't your problem, but it sure came to mind as soon as I read your symptoms--and it also had no check engine light.
BTW--don't give up and trade it yet. There will some reconditioning needed to get it dialed in, especially over 100K miles.
Plugs and wires are a great simple and much needed start. Replacing sensors is also good while you're troubleshooting--this stuff also helps for peace of mind.
The big thing is that you are learning more about your truck than you may realize, and becoming familiar with it's operation so that down the road when it gets to acting strange for some reason, dialing in the problem will be much simpler and less discouraging.
If you've ever followed Tim G on any of his used HUMMER buys, he is very thorough and has a list of stuff he reconditions on them as soon as he gets them home from the dealer. He's very detail oriented and shakes his trucks down front to back. You might PM him for great info on where best to put your money on parts.
The more you work on it and ask questions around the forums, the more comfortable you'll become with it. Heck, you might even make some new friends!
