Should I get a brush guard

08SolarFlareH3, Sorry I just came up with a photo of a H1 with a brush guard that is like the one from realwheels. That is the closest thing I can come up with that has coverage up top and not on the bottom. I still think it looks good. If you can't tell I'm trying to convince you to like the way it looks Haha. What do you think? Honestly

Ok so I guess Im going to get one and if i am I may as well go all out. I think i'm going to get a RealWheels black wrap around S.S. brush guard. The only problem is the cheapest I can fine it is $2,600 and thats on sale. If you guys know of a good and cheap place PLEASE tell.

I am going to get one as soon as I can save the rest of the money. Cross your fingers that nothing bad happens that I have to dip in to my savings. By the way Realwheels said that it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks to get it delivered from the time of order so that gives me time to save for a winch. If every thing works out I can put both on a the same time.:horns:

Yes you should! Id recomend the Boulder bumper ( am i correct? ). It was a nice bumper where you could put in a winch.

i say yea the rig looks awsome without it but it kinda adds somthing i was looking at the thor front bumper like you have and they said it may not work with the factory brushguard because the THOR bumper is pushed out more than the factory one from the grill just a heads up.

Hey thanks for the compliment. The Thorparts bumper mounts basically the same way as the factory ones by the tow hooks. So the thor bumper can't sit out any further than the factory one and the brush guards are sandwiched between the bumper and the tow hooks. Trailbreaker has the thorparts bumper and a factory brush guard and it looks like it sits like factory. I have been known to be wrong from time to time so I will talk to 4speedfunk ( thorparts ) just to make sure. Better safe than sorry.

Might want to check that part about airbag sensors and ARB's claim about that. I think that was a general advertising statement for their generic bumper with H3 mounts. We had someone with knowledge post that there are no sensors located up front to be activated by crush zones or impacts. It is triggered elsewhere by sensing impact, I believe thru the BCM. Another reason to pull fuse 27 when bouncing around offroad.
If there are sensors on the frontal area they are well disguised.
I have had the steering rack off several times and looked all around in that area while figuring out the pass side bracket and installed my BP tie rods, replaced steering knuckles and now removed entirely the front bumper and facia and have not set off air bags or seen any sensors.

When we got rid of the whole front end, and adapted the HMMWV winch bumper, we found two sensors. I had to relocate them. I don't recall where they were originally located. There were many people involved over a long period of time that helped strip everything down. There were no crush cans.

The THORparts front bumper will work with any brushguard you can find, as it bolts up just like the stock bumper. What may be an issue for some is the winch. Some brushguards have a crossbar right where the winch sits. So depending on your particular guard and particular winch...you may have to do some tweeking. I've sold a bunch of em, and only once did I run into this issue. The THORparts bumper is thicker steel than the stock one...so any guard you use will stick out further from the truck approx. 1/8" (assuming it mounts in the typical sandwhich fashion between the D-rings and the bumper).

The only sensor I have ever found (in numerous bumper installations), is a small one on the vertical brace in front of the radiator. I believe its an outdoor air temp sensor. I have my winch control box mounted very close to it. I'm not aware of any "airbag link" or "impact fuse" that is attached to the bumper itself...airbags are triggered by a brain located elsewhere.

Thats more like it. As a manufacturer of poor-man parts...I'm often amazed at the cost of some of the Hummer parts I see out there. People...don't pay stupid prices! If you want to know what something should cost, take a look at Jeep parts and work backwards from there. Our H3's are very similar in terms of what gear we want...and there should not be such a huge difference in price. Trust me...I know what it costs to make parts, and alot of people are getting completely hosed. Beware of the Hummer-Tax!

Support your local fab guy! Find a reputable shop...drive your truck to them and tell em what you want. You might be surprised at what you can get for your money. You're supporting the local economy and getting something one-off and custom at the same time!

My 2 cents is to buy one. I rear ended a new Toyota Highlander (owner had it 2 days) yesterday and the brushguard saved the truck from a lot of damage. The Highlander will need a new rear door if he doesn't push for a new vehicle. Life sucks sometimes!!

4 speedfunk, I would love a nice ARB but its outa my price range and it helps that my fab guy lives behind my office and is retired and just plays around all day so if anyone is in need of some custom metal stuff in the Pittsburgh area he charges material price and next to nothing for labor! And its always nice to have one of a kind parts
