Shock Opinions..

I'm sure, no, in fact I know this topic is old and worn...So excuse my question if it is..

My H3 is not lifted, it is all factory with the adventure package...

I'm going for new shocks soon (front and rear) and I have researched a few within a modest price range

and KYB Gas-A-Just P/N 555049 F, and 555050 R..keep coming up as an all around good replacement shock for the H3..

If you are at all familiar with this shock type/brand..any pros and cons will be appreciated..I think you guys are the best source for honest opinions without personal bias.

That wouldn't make any sense, since the OE's are still on the vehicle and I stated NO LIFT..

You don't need to have a lift to have the torsions cranked, and "most" people have that done to their trucks, so he was just making a harmless assumption, or letting you know that in the future if you do crank the torsion bars, you may want longer shocks.

Yea what he said!
It was just a statement of fact "if" you or anyone is ever going to crank it up.
Food for thought, as it were. Plan ahead, maybe. Only buy once or, never mind.
Just a suggestion.

I understood what you meant Hunner and thanks for the heads up either way..But as I said as in general terms as well..since most have cranked their T-bars ..and I was part of this Hummer Craze as far back as early 2006..The cranking of T-Bars was being done by everyone back then too..it's nothing new...These same folks also kept riding on their OE shocks and as I recall never had problems with short Shocks, some did however change out their OE shocks for other aftermarket brands..So I don't see it being an issue with replacing the OE's with an OE replacement shock and THEM being too short. ..as I said, what was suggested didn't make sense....No offense meant.

BTW; I have 4 cranks on my TBs and it about leveled the truck to where it doesn't look too much like a stink bug.:shifty:

Let us know how the KYB's owrk out, I may get a set in the spring

Will do Mike..I just got shipping confirmation and they'll be here Mid week next week..I plan on taking some pictures of the job..If you want or if anybody is interested, Maybe I could do a DIY documentary on the Shock job.....Like I did on the Brake and X-fer case jobs..although the job looks pretty easy and will probably not be needed here for all these experts..

Just finished changing out all 4 shocks with the KYB Gas-A-Just...took me about 1.5 hours all said and done..the rears were super easy..didn't even need to jack the truck up..the fronts required removing the tire and proping a jack stand under the suspension assy to leave a little slack in the shock mounting..

The ride is as good as new again..lot less body sway and nose dives at braking...I can recommend these shocks as an OE replacement.

Does "4 cranks" mean 4 complete rotations of the bolt head or 4 rachets of about a quarter turn each which would equal 1-1.5 full rotation of the bolt head?

thanks.

What is a softer rear shock? OEM or rancho? I had some bounce on a steep hill climb due to the rancho shocks not being ideal for my spring over setup. The run I am going on friday has very steep climbs if the OEMs work should I use them?

So technically it IS lifted over stock.
