Serv 4wd indicator

Basics: 08 H3 Alpha 102,xxx miles

Randomly a few miles into our drive the Service 4wd will display on the dash. Then it will go days without showing (seems to be the case when I get it to the shop to have it checked out) I've called into onstar for diagnosis and they say nothing comes back on their end all systems are showing good.

Being I've been out of work since Jan and getting really damn close to not being able to make the payments (with only a few months till its paid off) Id love for it to be a fluke :) But I'm sure with how my luck has been going lately .

Is this something that goes off in intervals for regular maintenance? So I can just get it serviced and reset or am I "f'ed"

Thanks in advance for any input

I have an 08 Alpha adventure as well. When I cut the wires to my rear locker - I got that message. That would be the first place I'd look (presuming it's an Alpha Adventure). Simultaneous with the Svc light, the light on the locker button would flash. I rewired my locker to be able to use it anytime, to fix it, I put a resistor in the ends of the cut wire... more likely than not, if you have a rear locker, you either have a break in the line, or there is corrosion in the plug that's attached to the rear differential (that engages the locker)....

I've broken about everything in the 4wd system, and ironically, that svc light only came on for the rear locker....

I was getting that message along with the code 2135 when the TPS on my throttle body was acting up. The truck was un-drivable until that code was cleared however.... I think that message you're getting could be a catch-all for any number of issues.

Ill have to look around. It was fine and just started doing it randomly. The truck does a whole 3 miles round trip the last few months with my wife just driving it to her office so I don't see how she would of got hung up on any wires but Ill check it all out.

Have you tried cycling through to 4hi lock and low? Do the lights flash weird? Had it happen two trips ago once and numerous times last weekend. Got the same message. Turned the truck off and it reset, luckily. I threw a code for the encoder motor for the tcase, spare I have is going in. Best bet is to have someone or someplace pull the codes. There should be a code store in the system.

when you see where it plugs into the differential, you'll understand. You live in PA, I presume snow, ice and salt - salt and water does a number to contacts; especially if there's any kind of leak....

3 months ago the connector plug for the rear locker wires made my service 4wd light come on just like SuperBuickGuy stated above

It could be as simple as your dash buttons sticking if they're pushed.

Exact thing happened to me after I pulled the center console part out to reconnect my XM. I just had to reposition it so the buttons didn't stick.

I did recently have the dash pulled apart. I cycled the 4wd functions and locker and all seems to work. I really have to clean the garage out (moved in a year ago and still have crap everywhere) and get the tool box opened up and read the codes

I pulled fuse 12 and 58 started it and shut it off put the fuses back in and the code is gone and the rear locker works again. Locker won't work while the code was displayed.
