Self Activating Seat Heaters

My seat heaters keep turning themselves on by themselves. Kind of annoying in hot weather! It seems to occur when even I get out and back in. I asked Tustin Hummer to fix it last time I had it serviced but they claimed they couldn't replicate the problem. I want to get it fixed before my warranty runs out. Has anybody experienced this problem and know what the solution is?

Mine do exactly the same thing - I'm pretty sure for me it's a case of 'fatasssomehowhittingtheswitch". I have the routine now where I get in the truck, start it up, reach down and turn off the seat heater, then pull away.

The auto turn ON of the seat is cause by the plastic trim where the switch is. When you sit it push the plastic trim down and turn ON the switch. to Solve the problem you have to screw the trim into the metal frame in order to make it fixed. and here is where the screw goes. Passenger side IMG_1177c.jpg Driver Side IMG_1178c.jpg GM has a bulletin on this. After I mentionned it to the tech, he came back with it and he applied the screws where it was mentionned on the bulletin. No more heating seat automatically now. ;) hope this help with your problem.

I have changed my way of getting into the hummer, so problem solved, no more accidental hot @ss for me

But i do love it when other people get in the passanger seat, and after about 30 minutes rally start to wiggle and then complain about getting hot:emb: and dit you ever notice it always get switched to to hottest setting possible :giggle:

yess the High is on top hihihi.. tried also to get in different way,, sometime i didnt turned it ON, but when I was exiting the H, I turned it On by inadvertence and when I came back in , since the switch never goes to neutral by itself, i was cooking without asking for it. Sometime I miss a cloth seat. but now that the problem is solved. Im happy with the leather. and no more complaint from the passenger side either . ;)

Thanks Archngel;

That is exactly what I was looking for. I thought it might have something to do with fatassactivation.

Sounds like it would work, but the screw looks better, and since it's under warranty ... I think I let the dealer do it.

At least the fix isn't a big glob of glue!

I've heard of the Dremel fix before. And it would much better than an H3 I saw recently that had a full 3/8" bolt in through that panel.

This thread teaches me to not ass|u|me I'm the only one having a problem. Mine has been doing this to me for at least a year. It never occurred to me that there might be other asses just as fat as mine having the same issues.

Could also be due to lifting your Hummer - it would change the trajectory ...:)

Good Point! Unfortunately, I'm still running on 33"s and only a milled T-bar crack, so it appears the other cause hits closer to home! :gaah:

Actually, the worst was on the Last Change Canyon run. Getting in and out a lot for stopping, ... The more tired I got the more the seat heater turned on and it was hot enough that I didn't need or want the it on.

I told my Hummer service person about this and he searched for a bulletin but couldn’t find it. If anyone has a bulletin number that would be a big help.

Thanks!

The service rep at Tustin Hummer was able to find the bulletin on the fatassactivation issue. It is #2203598. Here is what my driver's side seat looks like after the fix.

I guess I needed to tell them to fix both sides. Here is the passenger’s side. I guess I better not call it fatassactivation anymore!

Last time I took the T into Tustin Hummer, I pointed out that they didn't fix the seat on the passenger’s side and that the driver’s side is still doing the fatass activation. They said that the only location that they could install the screw was too far from the seat heater switch and they recommended that I try installing the aftermarket chrome Seat Control Plates. They said that they were made of metal and would stop the seat heater activation problem.

So, I looked into the chrome seat control plates, but they all appear to be attached with 3M foam tape. It doesn't seem to me that attaching a metal plate to the plastic is going make it more secure. Am I missing something? I don't really want to install chrome seat control plates, but I'd gladly do it if it would solve the seat heater activation problem. Unfortunately, I'm lacking faith in this fix.

I had the same issue on our 2010 H3T (but not the other 3 H3s with leather???).

I took a Dremel and cut away a small portion of the plastic above the heated seat switch and all of the material behind it. Haven't had an issue with it as of today.

I may look into the screw thingy also as a 2nd defense measure.
