For those who have your spare tire on your roof rack, how do you secure it? I just have mine chained, but looking for other options.

I have the gobi rack with the spare tire mount. The rack has mounts on it already

Are you talking about locking it to prevent theft?

Mine isn't on the roof, but I was worried it might run away, so I got three more keyed lug nuts that match the ones on my wheels so they use the same key. Works so far and it is more secure that when it was under the truck.

Predator sells a tire hold down mount that will work with most roof racks. None of mine are currently rooftop mounted.

About theft portager makes a good point. I also use locking lug nuts that use the special key. Great investment to keep a tire safe

I use ratchet straps and vinyl coated cables with locks. It's not bulletproof but will slow them down. Of course if they carry bolt cutters as I do, well.............Always park within pistol range when possible. I have found if you don't use at least 3/8 chain which is larger than cheap ass cable cutters will open to cut, your pissing up a rope. I don't want that rattling around up there. If they are big enough to hold four foot cable cutters and squeeze them to cut that size chain, you better use a bigger pistole'
I bought extra straps on this trip when I bought these because I also ran the High Island trail with them up there on my cheap ass Rola Rack, without a problem! I attach the hooks to tie downs in the rail not the rack.
I usually use color coordinated black straps but did not see any at the local Home Depot that day.:shifty:
