Red Line high temp ATF?

A friend suggested I might look into using a high temp ATF such as Red Line's: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=54&pcid=9

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? My friend and I were talking about how the ATF will work under the conditions our H1's usually run at and he suggested that running with the temps we usually do, will reduce the life of the ATF.

On the other hand, I'm guessing that this might be why the H1's require C service every 10-12000 miles.

Hmmm. I ran B&M Trick Shift for the extra performance at higher temps in my cars with automatics. I really didn't notice an improvement until it was time to change the oil. It no longer had that burnt smell so I assumed it was doing the job.

High transmission temperatures aren't an issue on most H1's. We have monster sized transmission coolers, I rarely see my transmission rise above 150 in highway driving and off roading.

There is one exception, climbing steep highway passes and downshifting on long downhill sections, I can get the temps up to 170-200 with lots of mountain climbing but in 5 years of driving my truck I never had my transmission go higher than that and that's within fluid specifications.

I run Dexron III/Mercon fluid in the transmission, just plain rated ATF.

The transfer case I understand runs about 20-30 degrees hotter, in that I run synthetic Dexron VI. Note: Check on your specific drivetrain configuration and vehicle if you can run Dex VI in your transfercase. I was told it was fine for H1's but some H2/H3's should avoid it

Oh, that's really interesting.... the 97 doesn't have a trans temp sensor but I assume it would run pretty close to what your 98 does
