I think that pretty much covers it. 'Course if you don't do things like extend axle/tranny/tc breather tubes and waterproof electrical bits under the hood then you are probably just going for looks.

It can help if you drive in real dusty places gettin the inlet up outta the cloud your tires kick up or the guy in front of you is kicking up. The cloud isn't as dense as it gets up to the height of the snorkel. It may drop your intake temp by a few degrees too but not positive on that one.

I installed one a couple years ago after sucking a big gulp during a water crossing, and its more useful on stock-ish H3's. Nowdays I'm sitting 6" over stock on 37" tires, and frankly...I don't have deep water issues anymore. Its more a limb-snagger than anything else. I'm over it. If I hadn't cut a hole in my fender I would have already removed it. FWIW, I also run an AirDoc tube and a Fram (dry-type) paper filter.

Snorkel Fact vs. Myth:
Yes...it works. You can float an H3 in five feet of water. Motor will keep running.
Yes...it does partially block your RH vision.
No...it doesn't add any power.
No...it doesn't add any wind noise.
No...rain & snow don't really have any effect on it.
Yes...by-standers (usually Jeep guys) constantly egg you on, to go "full submarine".

in conjunction with the airdocs it does make the vehicle run cooler and i found the rpm's are lower with it on.

i don't have any vision issues as i drive on the right side:)
if you have the window down you can hear it a little sucking the air in.

i would recommend it

So you never had issues with all the electronics after dunking your H3 5 feet under? I thought the BCM would get touched and the whole truck would flip out.

Not sure if anyone has done it but there has to be a way to seal the bcm from water.

X2 on this I remember watching your trucks built-walk thru and u mention having the water pretty deep in water...did u alter or mess with the electric (car stereo or navigation system) system in order to go that deep or was it mere pure luck...

I floated mine at the Badlands (in the pond by the lower parking lot). I tried to drive across the pond to a cluster of cat-tails on the far side....didn't make it. Water was right at the door handles and over the hood. At some point during my journey the floor of the pond sloped downhill. As I went down the underwater hill...the truck became buoyant and the tires separated from the floor of the pond. I started spinning and came to a complete halt. For a minute or so my co-pilot and me just sat there idling...trying to decide what the hell to do. The whole place was watching us and at that point I really thought I had screwed up royally. I opened the sun-roof and contemplated jumping in to swim a winchline ashore. The fan on the motor was chopping at the water and I assume the exhaust was gurgling. You could feel the truck tipping and bobbing like a boat does. I knew it was a matter of minutes before water came in and flooded the interior (and BCM). I tried one last maneuver...

I put the tranny in reverse, and tried to ease my way out. It spun at first...but slowly I got a grip as I drove back up the underwater hill I had come down. Eventually I got a full bite and drove right out in reverse. I got back to shore...took a bow...did a walk around...everything looked good. No water inside. No stumbling. No dash lights of any kind. Drove home, checked all my fluids, called it a day. This was with a Rancho kit and 35" tires.

One of my redneck Jeep buddies later told me that if you open a door, and flood the cabin...the vehicle will sink...your tires will get a bite...and you can drive right out. My reply was "yeah right". Jeep guys. God I love how they think!

Anyway...I'll never do that stunt again.

someday I will - in my HMMWV with a deep water fording kit - no doors to keep water out so it will be down and the water better be warm

I have an old Hmmwv air intake cap, painted the color of my H3T, some day I may put that on to add a few more inched to the intake.

Someday --

holy ****! lol

That would scare the **** out of me. Big rocks, off camber stuff, tippy stuff all of that I can handle but water like that scares me. If I could waterproof the BCM and put on a snorkel I would feel a bit more confident.

I've fried my BCM in water already which in turn somehow caused my TCM to fry as well. Has anyone tried to use liquipel or any waterproofing measure on the BCM yet?

Nope I don't think anyone has tried anything I bought never wet but haven't sprayed it yet

Waitin on you...Didn't you post the video for it?

Still, more narrow trails here w/ trees and limbs. Some crossings, Hacketts. Still have not crossed it, want to. For one , not enough support. Two, How deep could my ,06 Base, leveled on 35s go...safely?

Also, first things first... Rear Elocker, to help get me out of there...

Out here in Nevada most of our roads are super dusty specially in large groups. We have that super fine flour like dust that will get everywhere and into everything. I bought my snorkel to keep it sucking as much dust in. Huge difference in life of my air filter.

If you have an Alpha you can add the Syklone precleaner. It filters out the dust before it even gets to the air filter. I know I saw one on Hunners build. I have a friend who put one on his 3.7 L and it works, kinda. It really works well in the upper RPM ranges, you can hear it spinning. With the 3.7 at idle there's not enough airflow to really spin it up.

That said, it's definitely something I want to add the day I get a snorkel.

Personally, I think snorkels are one of the dumbest things you can bolt on to a rig.

And you base that conclusion on what? Just because you wheel where there is no risk of being in water, be it for fun or work, doesn't make something dumb.
