Today I spent some time plasti-dipping my chrome door handles. I plan to do the mirrors next and then possibly the grill. IMO i think that it turned out pretty well for a $10 mod:wink:

I hope this spray holds up to pinstriping, and stuff of that nature.

We will see:cheers:

FYI the handles literally are held on by 1 bolt, it would have saved time to just take them off and spray them. looks good though

Interesting look. I have not seen plati-dip before. Be sure to let us know how it holds up.

Funny, I Plasti-Coated the inside of a small section of my gutter today. It had a couple of pin holes and was leaking.

Great spray - very similar to the plastic spray that the info-mercial sells after coating a screen door on a row boat. Hmmm, would that work on a submarine? That would be a new twist to that old joke.:giggle:

I used the same stuff on the H2 hood handles, latches, and the chrome trim piece on the spare tire. So far so good.

Hey guys, I was ona roll today doing maintenance on the 3. So I decided to "pop off" the rear passenger and driver side door handles. Well did on and went to the other and pulled back real hard and it pop out. Well the loud snap was me breaking plastic, didn't realize till the second door.

So what part do I actually need. Is it item 1 or 2 on the breakdown digram at gmpartswharehouse.com or the part # if you know it.

I was planning on painting them black, might as well order them now. Thanks for the help.

that is the actual handle by the looks of it which is number 1 in that diagram. have you taken the handles off before?

Nope sure haven't. Trial and error. I just pulled the handle back and away. I hope I don't have to take off the door inner panel to fix this.

you have to take the palm of your hand and kind of smack the handles towards the rear of the vehicle if i remember correctly. you cant just pull them out. theyre kind of locked in there.

if you can get the broken piece you might be able to just epoxy or super glue it back together. im sure epoxy and super glue are stronger than that plastic is.

I know this sounds stupid at first, but a great aid in removing that bolt is a pice of chewing gum. Seriously. When I replaced mine, I took a piece of chewed (yeah, I know...gross!) gum and put in the end of the socket so the bolt didn't drop down in the door. If you wheel at all, I'm sure you'll replace at least one of these some day because trees tend to grab them.

ive used a little ball of tape but gum works too. some of the ones I have now are magnetic so that helps. I have lost one of the screws down the side of the door before though. Im sure its still in there.

I got some epoxy this morning... Has a breaking point of 3400 PSI. Well after 9 hours of drying in a climate controlled house, I took the handles out ot the truck for install. The frist one snapped off when I went to install, the other snapped when I test opened the door... So epoxy is a no go for this situation, time to order some handles.
