PICS- Forest Lake Run AF Canyon UT

Well, i took the after noon off from work yesterday. The weather was nice and cool so i decided to hit forest lake by my self. On the local 4x4 forum they were complaining how sketchy the ruts had gotten in the mud hole at the top before you get out of the pines. My sidewalls did rub the wall in one spot, but the closest my body got was maybe 4" from the dirt wall, it could be a different story in a solid axle rig as it seems logical to think they get more "body roll" don't know never owned one. One of my jeep friends also talked to someone who ran it and told him to staw away, he then told me the same thing. I couldn't imagine it being that bad, and it really wasn't. A little nerve wracking driving into it yes, but it would be hard to get damage from it, especially dry. I also heard that taking 33's up it would be questionable as the rocks are really exposed this year. Well, needless to say the trip went smoother than ever. Funny most the people talking about how bad it is are lifted on at least 35's solid front and rear, probably locked too, oh how it would be to have a rig over built so any trail is point and shoot, than talk about how bad of condition it's in. This was the first time i've ran it and not drug or scraped something underneith- trail was probably a little worse than last year but pick the right line and you should be good, i wouldn't take anything less than 33's up it though. Oh also, the first "tough" spot of the trail was gone, after you cross the river and eventually the trail turns left. You used to have to plant the front right tire on the high right side of the trail on top of a boulder, which was easy to slide off and get high centered on the rocks to your left. That spot could be done in 2wd if you've got it, completely changed. I did get to do a lot of BTM, sure would be nice to have a rear locker :shifty:

Anyways, on to the pics.

Wonder if this guys exo caged yota on monster pit bulls did the trail okay :giggle:
Also saw a 4 seater buggy on huge mickey thompson claws coming up on my way down.
I was grateful for their dirty looks, so i waved at them. No one in either vehicle waved back or said thanks for me pulling over and letting them by, didn't expect them too. More people don't wave back or smile up AF canyon than do. Probably because my 4x4 doesn't say jeep or toyota on the front end. Sh*t gets so old  The sheriff in his fullsize ford pick up waved though.

Thats some beautiful country.
Your 3 looks great, I think I need to get a couple sets of those Hellas soon.

Love Utah, thanks for sharing. I keep having to remind myself to take the high road with brand snobs and cranky wheelers, but I digress.

It's been way too long since I was up there. That is a great local trail. Mineral Basin is right next to it, and it is also a lot of fun. We should try to put together a locals run up there this summer.

Great pics by the way.

Looks like a great day out on the trails. Makes me want to go hit the trails.

They're just pissed that they have to modify their rigs to get where your rig is stock. Thanks for sharing, beautiful country.

looks like a fun day, nice pics too!

Thanks, I debated the hella's or the piaa's but for the price difference i'm glad i went with the hellas. They haven't leaked yet and are bright enough for me.

Some beautiful pictures and scenery! Thanks for the pics!

No problem, in the off camber/wall shot i had to climb out of my window to snap those. For the forum!

Looks fantastic up there!

Please allow me to direct your attention to the Rockies sub-forum: http://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/forum/showthread.php?2887-Time-for-an-Ogden-SLC-trail-run

Perhaps we can get a small group together and you can lead us there...

Yeah i'm down for a run up there, I know a few others on here have wheeled the trail as well. I'll have to check it out.

Great pics Harv. Great looking H3.

Thanks

It's in my backyard pretty much, lets do. Have you ever ran mineral basin with h3's? How do/would they fair through the "rock garden"?

Yep. Several times. They do fine, that rock garden isn't that bad. That is a great trail. If you can make Forest Lake you can make Mineral Basin.

Exactly... plus we can do it in comfort in our Hummers... Player Haters... I dont understand the Jeep thing... I dont care for them, but I still respect people that wheel in them and the abilities that they have...
