H3 overhead console?

hey guys i have been messing with the idea of putting up a overhead console maybe off a 99 suburban or this one arb makes for the fj, i really just want something to put a cb in.
but do you guys have and suggestions on how to put it on the roof or if you have your own set i would love to see it!

If you just want a CB mount, look at what Steve #1 and a few others have done. You can mount it to the roof with a lot less modification than it would take to install one of those overhead consoles.

That ARB console looks great.

The only problem I could see is modifying the console to match the contours of the headliner.

Have you measured out the length to see if it would fit?

yeah one of my friends is about to pick up an fj and im trying to talk him into getting the console so i can actually get my hands on it to see how it looks in person

That arb one looks awesome but I have a sunroof. I've been thinking about some way to make a overhead to work with the sunroof. If you do it post lots of pics of progress

What if you flipped that upside down, and replaced the stock console with it? It would be nice to have the CB right there on the hump. I would totally go for a column AT shifter, if it were available. OR even better...a rotary knob shifter like new Fords have. That would free up some much needed room on the console.

I'd like to mount mine up there too. nice little flat spot for my CB and its small enough it will fit perfect. but..... I dont know if I'm ready to tackle something like that

For reference, I believe there is a brace that runs between the B pillars between where this monitor is mounted and the dome light.

Steve#1 i like your install looks clean and simple did you trim around your bracket? Or sandwich the headliner?.
I like the overhead console but with the sunroof it ain't happenin

For reference, I believe there is a brace that runs between the B pillars between where this monitor is mounted and the dome light.

There are cross braces at various points on the roof. You can see in your picture that little plug? That is the line where the cross braces are (you can screw through the headliner there w/a 1/2" screw and not worry about puncturing the roof (Note: I take no responsibility if you puncture the roof ). The headliner sits about 1/2-1" below the metal roofline (perfect for adding sound deadening and insulation if you feel motivated)...

I just cut slits in the headliner for the bracket to go through so, yes, I would say the headliner is sandwiched.

I used a piece of I believe1/2" plywood glued to the roof to mount the monitor which was the right thickness to fill the gap.

I like what you did for the CB mount Steve#1, I just wish I didn't have to loose my dome light for it

Any other options? I as well have a sunroof and it limits me a bunch in the overhead mounting department

You don't, Beachbum did it but it looks really bussy up there.

My new CB set is going to be an Uniden BEARCAT 980SSB and I'm planing once I have it to put it in one of these two spots.
