When I bought my Alpha all it had was the resonator. I loved it, but my rear passengers complained lol. I removed the resonator and slapped a magnaflow in it's place. Still sounds mean under acceleration, and quiet when finally at speed.

Last CEL code is off! Fuel tank pressure sensor. Had one wire mixed up. 2 green wires in the harness one was taped off one was to the sensor in the tank. I had them swapped. Did some continuity testing found the green wire going to the tank, soldered up the wire and BAM!

Who would know a v8 and Solid axle wasn't factory looking at the dash :)

I gotta give you credit Chris. You did a fine job! I just hope you can get that past a smog ref. I still think that is actually your biggest task. Once you have that sticker inside the door, you are good to go!

I'm telling you sir. Them Firm $$$ handshake get you anything. When done right

Given it came out of a SMOG legal vehicle, it's not nearly as hard as it could be. He's just got to document a lot of stuff declaring a legal engine swap.

Nice work!! Hummer engine swap is a small fraternity. SAS swap is a small group as well. Must feel good to be a member of both.

Thanks everyone!!!! I really appreciate all the comments. I'm stoked...I need a muffler before I go to DMV. Who know how that will go but I did follow the rules....

Thanks to everyone for all the help and input along the way.

As for price 2k for envoy Denali. 1600 for trans rebuild with upgrades. 1k for harness and between selling old parts and scraping I broke even on other parts I needed. That's a v8 with 35k miles.

Only way I afforded it was listening to my dad. He always lectured me on saving my money and I've been doing so for a good while now which I would have been screwed if I didn't.

Used 3.5s and 3.7s I saw going for 2400-2600 with double the miles of the 5.3. So it wasn't that much difference in price...

I did also pay my buddy but not at full price as I got a friend discount and I spent MANY hours helping him on other customers cars.

Both the v8 and SAS were driveway builds. The SAS I did on my own but had friends stop by and help out the v8 was done together with my buddy all the way until the end when he did the exhaust.

It's been a long road but driving it today was awesome! Just cruising down the hilly freeways effortlessly. I still need a/c lines but it is driving and driving well!

I may weld in a support brace between an oem crossmember and my custom crossmember for my long arms to help strengthen the crossmember taking the added torque from the new motor

Biggest hurdle maybe the engine was not an option BUT DMV officials can be bipolar.

where did you find such a reasonable one?.. all the smog refs I've dealt with (okay, I'll admit it, I lived in California for awhile) were greedy, narcissistic, psychopaths. If they were BiPolar, I'd slip them some Xanax and all would be well.

and I'm impressed, you pulled off a tough task and your results show quite a bit of talent.

Heres an update, logged about 400 miles on it now and its back to daily driving duties.

Mileage is around 12-13 mpg. I live in a hilly area so it really depends where I am going but I would say about 13 mpg is average. I did get 16 mpg at one point where I was driving around 60mph for an extended period of time. I noticed my rpms at 60 were where they should be at 65 so 5.13s are a tad steep for the v8 but for now its doesnt affect driving, just hurts mileage a tad.

the v8 just laughs at 37s and makes short work of any long freeway hill climbs around here. I can accel in overdrive depending on the hill and if not it will downshift to 3rd and pull to 80 if I want to where before if I hit a big hill I would drop from OD to 3rd and even in to 2nd sometimes.

Other then that all is well. I have the A/C compressor covered and will probably wait till school ends to find an A/C shop to make me custom lines...I wasnt expecting to get any a/c lines super cheap but when I hear that CaseyS got his done for 29 bucks and I was quoted 500 you can kiss my ass! Things in CA are more expensive I get that but not that much!
