Hello Everyone, I am new here and I finally got my Hummer thanks to my awesome wife!!! It’s a base 2006 H3 and only has 70,000 miles on it! I have usually gotten trucks with a lot more miles on them in the past. I am a field service controls engineer so I travel a lot for my job so with that in mind I want to do some mods to it, but not get too crazy with it. I would really like to level the front of it, get a brush guard and winch for it as well. I have been looking at some of the BFgoodrich all terrains for it Since I am on the highway more than I’m off road with it. I don’t think the 315/75R16 would be the best choice for me seeing where I will be driving it more often, but I am kinda stuck between the 285/75R16 and the 295/75R16 the 285 is 32.8” tall with a tread width of 9” The 295 is 33.3” tall with a tread width of 9.6” seeing as I am stock wit the 265/75R16 how much orf a diffrence would the two make? Has anybody used these before? I know I am going to lose some power but I would also gain some clearance. Any input and thoughts would be greatly appreciated!! And I hope to learn more about my new toy from all of you!!

Congrats and welcome to the family. I started out with the 265/75/16's on mine and went up to the 315's. If you are not going to do any serious off roading stick with the 265 and your gas mileage will be better and there will be less stress on your front end components. I have rolled on Good Year Duratracs since they came out on both of my trucks. They are quite on road and really good off road. I am from Michigan as well, and they are really awesome in the snow. If you want the front end leveled, just crank the torsion bars and get it to set at 23 1/4 and get it aligned and your good to go. No need to buy keys. Enjoy your Hummer. Im from the Howell area.

Thanks! I am over in Fenton when I'm home. I will have to get under there and crank them torsion bars up and find some extended bump stops! Thank you for the info!!

You can get extended bump stops if you want to, but its not necessary. I say, use that money for a different mod. You could spend that money on ext shackles for the rear....WP_20150513_19_53_04_Pro.jpg

If you don't plan on wheeling it you can get a little more of a "level" lift out of the torsion bars because just daily driving won't put too much stress on the front end. 23.5" seems to be the go to for everyone, personally I'm at 24"

My idea of wheeling it is pretty lame considering what I have seen on here! I am looking for two track trails and stuff like that I don't want to see if my truck can go down a 90 degree hill! lol!

Welcome from Chicago! I have lots of family up Vasser so I really enjoy being there a few times a year. I plan on going to Rocks and Valleys this year along with Drummond Island in the late summer. I hear the trails are pretty hard there and look forward to the challenge after the SAS this summer. I have 2 buddies running the Nitto Ridge Grappler now and I have been pretty impressed. They have 295/70R17 without much power loss or difference in the gearing issues. Basically if you stick to 33" or less you are fine. It's when you go to a heavy 35" tire you get issues. When you crank up your front end with the torsion bars your ride quality goes to **** imo. If you leave it at stock adjustments you can just do the 1" body lift and have the clearance you want without making your ride harsh. With the increase in tires size to a 33" you will still have more clearance underneath. Honestly does 1" more ground clearance really make or break your off roading to trade for bad ride quality?

Mine rides better than stock, and I hate the feeling of looking down at the road

Welcome from Corinth MS. I was in a very similar situation when I got my 06H3 about 18 months ago. LOTS of highway miles (30K in the last 6 months). Has 285 BFG Long Trails on it when I got it. Had the Cooper ST MAXX recommended by a contractor I know who drives like we do and pulling a trailer. Said he gets over 2yrs/set (~80K miles) where as others would barely last 1yr. I just put a set of 305s on mine and they ride and drive better than the BFGs.
