2007 H3 89K all pretty much stock.

Driving all day today on and off. Near the end of the day "ding! Ding!""Stabilitrac error...blah blah blah off"
I immediately pugged in my new handy dandy Vident (Thanx HummerZ for the heads up on this tool)(only bummer is it seems to freeze, glitch a bit more than I would like).
But it sure does show the really important stuff. I mean it even shows the wheel speed at each corner in real time. Nice!
Tested entire system on H3 and the Vident reported all thumbs up. No Dtc's or other weird anomalies.
Till coming across this
C0136 Base Brake System Circuit (NO MIL set)

What the H@ll is a base brake system circuit?

I think that is related to a sensor in the master cylinder or abs module. Unfortunately I think that whole assembly on the firewall is replaced as a unit if it is the culprit.

C0136 Code - Base Brake System Pressure Circuit/Sensor

The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) uses an input from 2 brake fluid pressure sensors to enhance ABS braking and vehicle stability if equipped.

What are Code C0136 Possible Symptoms?

  • Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light ON
  • Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

What are the Possible Causes of the Code C0136?

  • Faulty Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
  • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) harness is open or shorted
  • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) circuit poor electrical connection

How to Fix the C0136 Code?

Start by checking the "Possible Causes" listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector's pins. Check brake fluid pressure sensors. Check EBCM.

Good luck.

Yep!
I read that too. Way to vague and ever GM elusive lol.
I need to find a schematic or wiring diagram that shows the connector/ connection for ebcm.
Like how it references the voltage and the circuit/s that feed the signals.
Because the ebcm is all digital/mechanical and has no fluid flowing through it from what I can figure out.
This is a phantom error. Meaning it comes and goes. It only affects the 4/4lock/4lo when the error is happening. Which comes and goes. As I was testing last evening it would hang between 4lock hi and 4lo then error but only did it once or twice out of multiple attempts.

Whatched and read stuff last night about this issue and as always lots of misinformation on you tube and web.
Needing some help with this.
It is definitely some sorta voltage or resistance issue. Because the ebcm seems to work every time till this phantom anomaly shows its ugly self.

I can actually watch live data with scanner and see voltage change for 4/4hi/4lo. Each time it will be same values until c0136 phantom raises its ugly head lol.
So can put actuator to side for the moment as far as primary culprit. Each time I change position on 4/4hi/4lo values in voltage correspondingly change.
Can put wheels speed sensors to side for moment because can see live data of values and change in data.
Like wise wiring to wheel speed sensors probably can be tabled because can see values change. That wouldn't be likely if wires were suspect.
Actuator selector on center column not sticking as switches activate when pushed quickly. That rules out gummy switches mostly.

What does that leave???

How does the brake switch come into play?
Where does the ebcm get its reference and comparison values?
What color is each wire for the corresponding value or reference signal?

I know this is some heady stuff. Not " hey what bubble will make my H3 look cool"... smile 😀 j/k

Here’s the general page for c0136 If you need any additional pages I can get that to you as well.

Hopefully that sensor didn’t croak, says it’s non serviceable…It does say a brake poorly adjusted brake switch could set it off too.

Wow, thanks very cool. That started me looking for service manual materials and much to my chagrine found em. Now just to digest allot of information. I'll continue to post as often as I can.
Tha saga of c0136 is not over lol!

Hopefully an answer can be found

3rd light was half dead. Took everything apart and did some testing. LED's all would operate with a 9v battery feeding them one at a time.
Was able to then test whole board/heat sink/bastardized mess.
Figured it was the regulator LM317s. D@mn

Gave up and just sanded the board down with a flap disk on my angle grinder.
In the end used an self adhesive style LED strip (red) and notched the old housing to fit .
It works and it didn't cost $100-$250 dollars LOL!
IDK if this has anything to do with (C0136) error? But I figured it had to be fixed.

This is pretty much how I did it. Hats off to the original poster.

Well today spent a few hours with 07 H3.
There are two grounding points associated with stuff dealing with Ebcm. One is located by firewall nearest MBC/ABS. It is a multi ground splice pack.
The other is located behind air box. Removed the one nearest ABS and sanded / cleaned. Then sprayed.
Other one loosened, inspected and sprayed. Both were retightened. Cleanedbattery cable ends and posts. I mean really cleaned 'em.
As a side task cleaned MAF. Both connector and associated cable.
Checked visually some other stuff. Plugged in scanner and watched values and data pids.
I'll keep posting as needed.
Brake circuit is tested by the Ebcm/Ecm pretty much continuously. So, I'm guessing if a switch or associated items on that circuit are problematic the test will fail to meet criteria. 🤔

Well, Sh!t the alternator starting going out today. D@mn!
I'm gonna take a guess and shot in the dark that part of the reason for the c0136 was the alt dying.
Now just to fit that into a very already way busy week.
One of my bottom back teeth broke so I've been dealing with getting a dentist and Blue Cross ugh!
Grateful to have ins. tho.

!update!
Ordered a replacement ACDelco/GM alternator the other day and got it late yesterday.
Watched the available video on YouTube and got started.
Firstly, the videos make it look easy lol... it ain't..
I mean there is a lot to this.
Anyway the alternator is in and it's pump the juice (14.9-15v)
It's whisper quiet and it's new.
While I was at it Monday replaced the tensioner pulley and idler pulley.

At this rate the accessories assembly will be pretty much all replaced.
No this is not because of the C0136. The bearings went bad in the alternator and pre tensioner pulley. The idler pulley was just cheap ins. peace of mind.
While the battery was out cleaned the body ground strap under box.
Little white vinegar goes along way. Sand paper and patience.
Taped up things and zip tied.

Still trying to track down this issue and at the same time deal with a grinding rotational scrapping noise on accessories serpentine belt.

I would go to youtube and search out if there's a way to access that sensor w/o replacing the brake assembly. There are a lot of "Whole assembly must be replaced" talk, which some ingenious guys have figured out how to re-do w/o throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Even if the video is not H3, or even GM-specific...it might still apply. Or replace it if it seems like it's on the edge anyway.

I get the same error and now my brakes lock up while driving when the fluid get hot. Removed all the fluid and flushed the system. Same issue after all of that. Does anyone know if the electronic brake control module needs to be programmed? The used ebcm cost 400.00 and not sure if that’s the issue. Seems like it might be. Does anyone know
