I've heard folks say they pull their fuse when running trail (on both H3's & JKs), but never heard of someone actually popping them.

Was this on the trail?

Check with reaper on what fuse to pull or not pull next time. Seriously though, were you on a trail or street? Heard about it, but have never seen it. Call or pm me tomorrow and will get you prices

Any side slope to it or way off traction slide? I've heard of it back east with the steep mud trails bouncing off of trees. But have never seen it out here. Especially from what you are saying what happened.

PM sent. Happened to me on a city street. Sucks but GM will cover it on a street but probably not on a trail. Theyll send investigators out to check out everything before committing to fix it. I always pull that airbag fuse BTW.

GM may cover it as long as you are under bumper to bumper warranty. And it all has to do with what you said you were doing. As far as always pulling the fuse. If you pulled it all the time, wouldn't you know what fuse to pull? Just sayin my .02

Black box? Flying a plane? No black box in cars in a sense. They would pull info out of the PCM and sdm. Out of warranty, more than likely will not happen. You can try calling GM assistance but you may not get far with it. Of all the 3's I've wheeled with, this is the first one. And there should have been some that popped.

I know Tustin has seen a few. I met a guy there whose 3 had blown the side airbags. Of course GM had told him he was the only one and they hadn't had other issues. I gave him the real story and some forum info to help him out.

This was a fairly common topic on one of the forums 3 or so years ago. This is the first time anyone has reported it happening lately. There are some threads describing the back and forth between the victims, GM and Insurance Companies.

I'm not a lawyer, but I think there are laws (not sure if state of federal) that make it a crime to sell a car with non-functional airbags. The liability aspect if you ever sell it would be my only concern. If you're going to drive it until the wheels fall off that's different.

Took it to the dealer, they said to leave it with them and they will investigate it.

Whatever the regulations... Unless you living the states where you have to pass safety inspection every year(Like Virginia). I used live in MD and had a 95 240SX. I installed racing steering wheel with quick disconnect obviously without airbag. After that I removed passenger airbag and computer to reduce weight and installed 4 point harness. Never had an issue and need for it anyway and I was bale to sell it as-is. The inspection was not my concern but the buyers.

if this turns into a huge thing with GM im just going to say idc turn the airbag light off on the dash and im going to install 4 point racing harnesses in the car.

Just grab a razor blade and slice off the deflated bags. One less dohinky to worry about.

couple seconds after it happened i pulled my knife out and cut it all out and tucked the headiner back in. its totally drive able. just need to fix the seat belts and its fine.

Mine was on road, no warranty... 80 or 90k miles (I bought used), and was covered after a bit of a hassle.
