Late Summer NC Meetup Feeler - August 2 or 9?

Hey all,
I'm going to try again for a coastal meetup, mimicking the last attempt. August 2nd is Cars and Coffee. If there is no interest in that, we can just hit the beach the following weekend. Same rules as last time apply.

If August 2 wins, we will begin the day at Cars & Coffee here in Wilmington. We had 4-5 Hummers last year and we had a great time. Meet at the Schaefer BMW dealership parking lot. I'll get there early to reserve some primo parking spaces. I will attempt to be near the front entrance.


After Cars and Coffee, we'll go to Freeman Park in Carolina Beach (20 mins from Wilmington) and spend the day on the beach. You ARE permitted to drive on the beach here (must purchase a day pass...$22 I think) and you can stay as long as you'd like. I'm thinking we can spend the afternoon here...swim....fish....sunbathe....whatever floats your boat.

Then, I'm thinking we can round out the day eating dinner at Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn, a Wilmington staple serving really, really tasty burritos, tacos, etc.

The schedule would look like this:

• 9 AM to 11 AM -- Cars & Coffee (then convoy to Freeman Park)
• 12 PM to 4 PM -- Freeman Park Beach Time / Free Time (then convoy to dinner)
• 5 PM to 7 PM -- Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn Farewell Dinner

If there's no interest in C&C, we will just start at the beach earlier.

You are, of course, welcome to do your own thing as well. This will be family/dog friendly, so bring the kids if you got 'em!

I am interested. Need to check my schedule if I can take a day off for this weekend. It's a 7 hour drive for me, so I'll have to be there Friday to Sunday.

hey if you are here all weekend then you would have time for a couple trails here on ft bragg!!only a couple require base access but i can get you that if you so chose to ride those trails.

Also, what are the closest hotels in the that area?

Looks like August 2nd might be the forerunner here.

As for hotels in Wilmington, the zip is 28408. There is a Jameson Inn very close to where I live and it is cheap (I've stayed there for $40/night). There is also a nice Holiday Inn down the street, a couple Hiltons nearby, etc. For the budget-oriented consumer, I would recommend Jameson for dollar-to-content value.

Cars and Coffee will be the morning of August 2nd so that will be cool. Day passes for Freeman Park are $20/25 and you can stay there and camp if you like.

As for running trails...there are NONE in Wilmington or nearby. We can drive on the beach and that is about it.
