Hello. Just picked up an 06 H3 adventure/ luxury. My daughter just came back after her frosh year at college and didn't have anything to drive for the 3 months a year that she'll be home so my wife made be get her something :). I've loved it since it came out but it doesn't meet my needs, towing, to ever get one. So I get to start light to medium off-roading when I can. I've read for hours here and just have 1 question so far. Would adding a front metal diff with locker be a lot better than just the rear? I've been reading forever without the answer to that question.

Adding a cast iron diff with locker to the front would be helpful but it would be far better to add a locker in the rear. I rarely use a front locker.

Welcome to H4O! The front locker, assuming you have the rear, is really a bit of a luxury unless you want to do more serious trails. For exploring forest roads, camping, etc,, the rear locker alone will certainly suffice. Heck, you can get by w/o lockers too but having one or two is certainly easier. But for $1200-$1800 in parts it's not a cheap upgrade.

I use the rear locker a fair amount in Moab as I've done many of these obstacles w/o any locker and with only rear lockers, so I know I can do them. Using the front locker simply makes it easier.

thanks guys, alrock, I read your complete write up on what you did, was great by the way, and was curious as to why you put your locker buttons on the 2 lower spares rather than getting the 2 locker buttons for where the stock ones would be?
