It appears that my torsion bars are done

It's an issue that's been going on a while, but I hadn't put much time or effort into thinking about it. Got an alignment in Dec after I set the ride height to 23.25 and found that it was at 22.25 a couple of months later.

Now, with the recent work on the rear springs I cranked the torsion bars. First go was at 24" and I drove around to let them settle. They came down a bit, but not much. I turned the passenger side down 1 turn and got to 23.5" after driving around.

A day later and another drive, it was at 23.25 on the passenger side. One more day, one more drive, 23.0". Driver's side hasn't moved much.

I'm going to replace them with Bigunit's takeoffs, which have 50K on them (vs. my 134K). He took his off as he got JR3T's Alpha torsion bars. JR3T got Bebe's takeoff custom bars. So yeah, I'm pretty much at the bottom of the hand-me-down pile, but I'm good with that. :)

Should be able to do this on Saturday or Sunday and see if my ride height can stabilize. I'm shooting for 23.5" as my goal.

I've sagged almost 1/2" in a few months time. Maybe 5 or 6 at the most... Gonna re-adjust now that I got the 35s and watch it. Might consider some alpha bars and swap the TD bumpstops for the new stock ones I've got in the closet. I've only got 84k miles....

So I have a question.... If you set the height and go get an alignment, and it sags, it's gradually sagging out of alignment? If you re-adjust back up to the height it was at when you got the alignment, you're essentially adjusting it back into alignment aren't you? I have lifetime alignments so it's not a huge deal to go get an alignment, nor does it cost me anything. I was just curious....

Well, I don't want to have to adjust it daily or get alignments daily. I'd rather fix the problem at hand.

Lifetime alignments can be revoked and I suspect daily, weekly or even monthly would raise their ire.

I agree. But I'm asking out of curiosity. Even if the front end sags over a period of a year, wouldn't you be inadvertently adjusting the front end back into the specs at which it was set at in the last alignment (whenever that might have been)??? That is to say that not too much else has changed in that time (bushing wear, hard hits knocking the toe out, etc)... This is a purely hypothetical question and not directed at any one situation or any one person.

I'm surprised firestone hasn't given me any grief. I've had probably 4 alignments and the toe set twice... I alternate between two local firestone and a couple of those times have been to have them recheck it cause they used the torsion bars to fine tune the alignments.

Swapped out the torsion bars on Sunday and got an alignment. Checked the ride height today and it is holding, showing that the old torsion bars were shot.
