There's a 2007 H3 with 176k miles being sold near me. Luxury and Adventure package for $9,950....... Should I expect much more life out of this H3 or would it end up being a short term investment for me? Carfax is clean, never had any issues according to it. No radiator or cylinder issues.

Like any used car, expect issues, even if it's well maintained. But for that price, with those options, as long as it's clean and in sound operating condition, I'd say it's worth it. It'd be a good candidate for an engine swap later on. :)

A 2008 Alpha just showed up for sale 5 hours away from me. 106k miles for $20,700. I wanna say the Alpha is still the better deal......but over twice the price

That sounds a little high on the Alpha. All depends on where you live. The 3.7 could be swapped to a V8 for about the difference between the two in price. Are you a gearhead?

Nope. The most I've done on a vehicle is my 2005 GMC Sierra. I installed a banks monster exhaust, Afe intake, Nfab RSP bumper with Procomp lights, tie-rod sleeves and bushwhacker cutout flares. The rest were done by my local 4 Wheelparts. Those are all considered easy bolt on stuff. If it came to replacing a radiator or even working on brakes.....I am afraid I am at a loss.

Around here (Utah) all of the Alphas are going for well over that price, and for more miles, so to me that is a great price on an Alpha, even if it's base otherwise. Heck, I paid $18k for my 2008 Base 3.7L H3 a few months ago, it had 73,000 miles at time of purchase. Granted it was from a dealer, but even the private sellers weren't much better in pricing considering they were all much higher mileage. I would have liked to have gotten an Alpha, but they were all outside of my price range.

I bought my '06 base with 170k on it. It was always dealer maintained and extremely babied. Still had the original front end on it, low fill t-case, and the head was never off. Don't get me wrong, it was well worn, but still had the original everything. Also, I've had a handful of H3's and that one got the best fuel economy.

Wow.....you've had so many Hummers over the years 5gn-h3t. I am still on the fence about this 2007 with 176k or an Alpha.

Some people gamble, some people drink, I buy cars. Lol.

The '07 sounds like a fair deal. However, since you do not work on your own cars, maybe you should wait and try to find an Alpha (or just something with lower miles). I've seen a few Alpha's go for under $20k with 95,000 miles or less. Just keep looking.

I'm holding out for the non-running, $5500, 200K mile, piece of crap.
Standing-by: Cummins 4bt, Dana 44 front, stick tranny, top-chop, flat black paint job.

I'm driving one of those! I figured that would be at the high end of what I could have gotten for mine at 259k with a shot I5. I could have gotten a $200 premium for the lux package maybe.

What's the most miles anyone has seen on an H3... and still considered it a decent but well loved vehicle? I burn up the highways to/from work & the last 3 GM's I've owned have all made the 300K mark before some act of fate intervened. (Although they have been sedans with a 3800 motor)

On another forum a someone posted that a woman brought an 06 H3 in for service with about 240,000 miles on it and it was still going strong. Wish I could find the post at the moment.
