Based on the responses from absntmnded's feeler thread, the H4O winter RC run will be held Sat. December 8th with the possibility of wheeling the 9th too. I would be happy to wheel Sunday the 9th if there is enough interest. Either way I will stay at the hotel Fri & Sat .

Many of you have been to RC off-road park before and know the drill but for those who haven't, you must be a member to run at RC. You can become a member here if you are not one already. The cost is $15/year, plus $35/day for entrance each day you run. Also Passengers 16 and older must also be members ($15). If already a member, it's $7/passenger over 16 years old. The $7 is waived if you pay the membership fee that day.

Most will stay at the Pine Grove Hampton Inn They are very welcoming to the off-road crowd and the rates are decent. Edit: The RC rate is no longer available to individuals but I talked to the manager at the hotel and they are willing to extend us the deal. If we can figure out who is definitely going, will need accommodation and for how many days. I will submit the number of rooms to them and they will give our group the special rate. I believe it is a a little better than the AAA discount so its worth doing. Post up if you will be staying at the hotel and want the discount. I will need the list ASAP if we want to go this route. If your not sure about staying that's OK but don't wait to book until the last minute, surprisingly they do fill up on weekends. Another option is the Comfort Inn or Econo Lodge down the street, they're not as nice but definitely cheaper.

Friday night is usually a good chance to meet everybody and discuss things such as breaking down into groups if needed, what trails we want to run, CB channels, trail bosses etc. So if you can make it Friday evening that's great, if not we will most likely be lined up and READY TO LEAVE the hotel parking lot by 9:00am on Saturday. We could get on the trail earlier but I wanted to give the guys just coming for the day time to arrive. I'm just going to go by the list here (which will be updated as necessary) for roll call in the morning if we have everybody and are ready to go before 9:00 that would be cool too. More time to get registered aired down and on the trail!

If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to PM me or post them up. More details to follow...

My work here is done. Time for the new VA Prez to flex his muscles.

I'll probably meet everyone at the hotel on Saturday morning (less than an hour away). If there's anything I can assist with, just let me know.

"My work is done here"... I'm gonna put you in front of me so that you can strap me out when I get high centered.

Kflips, first off that deliverance pic is just creepy man. As far as flexing the guns, this event isnt even in VA, so I'm just going to try and make sure everything goes well and we have a safe and fun day on the trail. Everyone here has something to bring to the table for this run, some have more experience at RC like Mr. Zilla who would make for an excellent group leader. Others may have extra recovery gear or maybe a spare CB to lend out to those who don't have one. Every skill level and vehicle from a stock base H3 to a monster rig like Recons can be accommodated. If we have too large a group or some people want to hit some harder trails we can split up. All options are on the table...except for canoeing the Cahulawassee river, sorry Kevin.

Believe or not...

I just saw an interview last week with the guy that played the "banjo-boy" from Deliverance! He is alive and well...in his fiftys...he works at freakin Walmart...and he is not even close to retarded! Not only that...he can't play the banjo either! He was a local boy from the area where they shot the movie, and even though he looks a little bit "not quite right"...he's perfectly normal. They directors coached him to get him to act that creepy. Nowdays people recognize him and ask for his autograph constantly. He has also received alot of hate-mail from other hill people that blame Deliverance (and his performance) for depicting them like they were in the movie. Here's a small clip...

For those who want to get familiar with Rausch Creek, I've create these georeferenced (roughly) Google Earth files from their trail maps.

https://www.box.com/s/l4srfa677kbfj8pa8jv0

-Download the file, Open with Google Earth
-"RC_Maps" folder will appear on the sidebar in Google Earth
-Toggle the check box to turn each layer on/off
-Right click -> Properties to adjust the opacity
-If you want these maps to be in Google Earth each time you open the program, move the "RC_Maps" folder into "My Places" on the side bar.

Someone please let me know if you have any problems with the file. Enjoy!

I think there are three others interested so far from other forums. Looks like a good number of rigs.

As I recall the Northeast section had some nice trails but it cost more to go there. Maybe that has changed.

I enjoyed going into & out of the quarry and doing winch hill (where ever that is) once as well but that may not be for everybody & needs a good guide.

Anyway, all good, anywhere as long as we can strap each other out. I also have the phone number for the flat bed tow from one of my previous outings.... hopefully no one needs that

Cool, thanks for the update Kevin. Sounds like we should have a nice group for this one! ...And Yeah I think the the NE property is still an additional $10.

Hi, I'm a newb for 4x4 but would love to try it out with you. The date looks great to me, but can't commit 100% yet.
I got and H3 with 3'' lift on the front and running on 305/70R16. Will that do to keep up with all of you?

Also, what do I need to know for the first time off-roading?

Hi, Art. Welcome to H4O!

You will have no problem keeping up with us with your rig. Our group may have everything from stock to 40" tires. In my opinion, the best mod for the beginner trails at Rausch Creek is skid plates/under carriage protection. With that said, many here, including me, have done a lot of the easier trails without extra protection. The group may be large enough to split into groups based on the difficulty desired. Also, a CB is very helpful to stay in contact on the trails.

Hope to see you there.
