Time to take another stab at Last Chance Canyon.

Description: Last Chance Canyon (LCC) is a fun trail with intermediate boulder crawling. We recommend trucks to have at least 33" tires and steps removed. Lockers and rock rails are helpful but not required. Most of the run will take place in the bottom of a canyon with one steep hill climb. This is a good trail for beginners to learn technical driving.

When
: October 20th, 2012

Where: Garlock, CA

Time: 10am we will be hitting the trails. We will be meeting around 9:30 to air down and a quick safety meeting. Expect a full day of trails so bring a lunch to eat while we wheel.

Meeting Spot: Trailhead on the south end of the canyon just off of Randsburg Road. :link:

Trails: Last Chance Canyon

We will be heading north up Last Chance Canyon. If time is good, we will swing by the Burro Schmidt Mine. We will then come back down Last Chance Canyon on the way back out. If time gets short, we can take the quick route out Mesquite Canyon.

Communications: CB channel 37

Weather: Temperatures have quite a range here. I recommend bringing a warm clothing in case it becomes a long night. Bring sunscreen and lots of water.

Travel Convoys:

  • Torrance - Departure time will be 6:30 from Mill's Restaurant. :link: We will join up with the Santa Clarita caravan.
  • Santa Clarita - We will meet at McDonald's just off the 14 at Golden Valley Road for the next meet-up at 7:30 and maybe a quick bite to eat. :link:

Post Trail Meal: We will be having dinner at Domingo's in Boron. It is a good place in between both routes home. :link:

Ok so I was totally not thinking right when I was looking up where LCC is. I'm only about 160mi away do if I can switch my Friday Night shift I'm gonna try to make this one(wheeling after a 12hr shift and 2.5hr drive can't be safe). I am still interested in meeting up w/ some of you in Gorman for a "training wheels" run for me ;). Also what do I specifically need to run this trail(ie sliders? UCP?)? Currently I'm just TB cranked on 315's w/ an 08 Base. Thanks guys

I can get you through LCC on 35s with no problems. Sliders and UCP would allow you to take a more aggressive track but they are not needed if you pay attention to your spotter. Make sure you have food and plenty of drinking water. Some of us already carry spares for the most likely to break parts. We also have plenty of recovery gear. You can get an idea of what you should carry once you see what we have on board.

I find myself making regular trips to Tracy to visit my brother. We could meet up at Carnegie SRV some time as well.

What up with the crickets Mr prez?
Craig brought 06 H3 through this trail with no sliders or UCP unscathed. You should be fine. And lack of sleep. Most of the time I can't sleep the night before a run. Too excited lol

Haha my usual is about 6L water a day so I'll have that covered and I do enjoy lunch so I'll pack a big cooler. As for Tracy, that's about 2hrs from me so I can def do that as a Day Trip too. What about a CB? Will/should I mount one ASAP?

Ok I talked it over w/ my boss lady and she gave me a permission slip ;) count me/us in for the 20th. I understand it'll be an all day ride and meeting up is at 0930ish I believe? How long will does this run last? The wifey will be 8mo prego by then but really wants to go along(yeah she's crazy like that lol). Pretty stoked about this and now I gotta find a good CB set up

If all goes smooth, we could be off the trail 3:00-4:00. There is a cool tunnel that is about a half mile long that is entertaining to walk through and could add an hour. We usually drive to Boron for great Mexican food after but that is not a requirement if you want to drive back home that night.

Haha great Mexican Food? Count my wife in lol. Just asking bc we'll probably look for a hotel so we won't have to drive all day(theoretically).

Like I mentioned in the other thread, look in Lancaster, preferasbly something close to the freeway. A few of us will be driving through there on our way home so we can help you get there.

Alright I'm actually going to try and make this trip.

You can also look in Tehachapi, its a little closer and on your way back home.

It is pretty damn good.

Just a heads up, ask your pediatrician about her wheeling with you that late in the game. I've heard arguments from both sides about whether or not it affects the baby to rock around like that but it seems like it wouldn't be the best for it.

Yep, Domingo's rates pretty high. I used to eat there for lunch on a regular basis when I worked at NASA on Edwards AFB. Speaking of which . . . looks like Endeavour just touched down out there.
