:cheers:Hey , everyone,,
some questions to ask HUMMER folks.
I guess I will swap my I5 engine sooner than I expected.

Is 6.6 DuraMax available on I5-H3?? What's the conversion package price?
>I dreamt about having a DuraMax in a H3, and having a "DuraMax" Emblem on the H3! that would be awesome!<

I considered about LS series engine, but I think DuraMax or 08-09 Hummer H2's engine is better, because both of them are designed for trucks/SUVs.

If there is emissions testing where you live, be advised that a Duramax in an H3 is NOT a legal swap. Technically, a 6.0 isn't either, but they would have no way of knowing it isn't a 5.3 unless you told them.

I think the Duramax would present some serious fitment issues. Nothing that couldn't be overcome, but I bet there would be some tunnel mods needed, and you would definitely have to lose the IFS. Also, the stock 8.6" rear would have to be swapped for a 10.5" or 11.5" full floater rear, as it wouldn't be long lived with DMax torque in front of it.

Maybe when Alex's warranty runs out we will do the swap in his :p

In all honesty with you having a 2009, it would be a lot cheaper to sell yours and upgrade to a 09-10 5.3L Alpha. Any engine you decide on is going to be an expensive swap unless you can do it yourself and it still will be costly and time consuming. According to the link Alex (Alrock) posted, Mash Motors Inc gets $18,500 for a 6.0L conversion in the H3.

I am not familiar with this stuff, but isnt there a way to modify the current engine to accept diesel? Probably like replacing the lines and valves and stuff like that?

Diesel engines run at twice the compression than petrol engines. You could never convert it without blowing everything up. That's why diesel engine weigh a lot more. That's my next point. The Duramax is very heavy and you would basically have to swap out everything on your truck. You would probably have to reinforce the frame. You would need a body lift to fit it under hood. You would have a very high center of gravity. The H3 is not the ideal vehicle for such a conversion. The only thing I would do is a 4.0 Cummins engine. It's a torque monster, but very slow. Because of the year of the vehicle you have, you will most likely not meet DOT requirements.

Oldsmobile thought that too years ago, not enough compression and could not handle it, if it did.

You could also try sending Speedy a PM. I had a conversatoin with him quite awhile back and he was thinking about a diesel swap on Bebe's rig. I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened yet. The diesel he mentioned he called a Blue Diesel (I think). I did a search and about all I found was reviews for Blue Diesel Marijuana (oh really??). Gues I learned something new today too.:whaa:

The Duramax isn't that heavy. 860lbs. complete. Powerstrokes are 1000, and a 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins is 1100. The main issue with the DMax is that it is WIDE, and the Allison is a fat bastard that may not fit in the tunnel without surgery. And, like I said, the torque from any diesel is going to overwhelm the stock axles.

4.0 Cummins? I believe you mean the 4BT or it's common rail counterpart, the ISB3.9 and ISB4.5. They are lower power stock, but any can make 300+HP pretty easy, which would be far from slow. The 4BT would be a fairly easy swap, the ISB's not so much because they are rear gear train engines which cause tunnel/firewall fitment issues in most light truck chassis. A built 4L80E can handle a modded 4BT, so tunnel fitment wouldnt be an issue. Still need different axles tho...

I saw in the news that's colorados will be offered with 2 different liter size four or 6 banger diesels next... google it for the specs. Im hoping that may be more feasible option, id like to do it in the future

Not sure why everyone gets so worked up about doing a LS series swap. No its not that hard. No most people cannot do it themselves. As far as cost, alot of that depends on what you want to do for a engine. Around here you can get a 6.0L truck motor under 100,000 miles for around $600 Then the sky is the limit for how much work you want to do to it. As for parts you can use alot of parts off the alpha. Oil pan bolts right up and fits great, front accessories fit. This swap has been done several times on the colorado forums. You can get your wiring harness modified by current performance. For tuning there are many choices.

The new Colorado features an all-new global family of GM-developed turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines designed for performance and fuel efficiency. The two Duramax diesels, built at GM Thailand’s newly opened $200 million engine plant, are available in 2.8-liter (pictured below, left) and 2.5-liter (below, right) displacements.

The 2.8-liter turbo-diesel features a variable-geometry turbocharger and a balance shaft for greater smoothness, while both engines feature components designed to last up to 150,000 miles.

The 2.8-liter engine is rated at 180 horsepower and 346 pounds-feet of torque with an available six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5-liter engine is rated at 150 hp and 258 pounds-feet of torque.
