Gentlemen it's good to back on the forum. Been out for a while. I just purchased a little commuter car to ease the cost of fuel. I drive about 100 miles/day and with the new car I'm getting over double the mpg than the H3. Obviously saving some serious cash. I am now on an mpg kick... I am curious how you are all keeping track of your engine stats ie mpg, temps (trans and coolant), throttle position etc. Real time. I already have HP tuners and get all that info with my laptop but I have to pull the RDO fuse so it doesn't fry my pcm since I have an aftermarket radio/dvd player and those screw with the electronics. So what are you guys running in your trucks? I am aware of the Scangauge II are any of you using that with success with an aftermarket stereo? Any luck with anything else? There are these too which I would consider as well. http://www.amazon.com/ieGeek®-Wirel...2318&sr=1-7&keywords=obd+ii+scanner+bluetooth

I use Scangauge II, its also programmable for other codes (I have coded in Transmission Temp for the H3) & easy to check & reset fault codes on the fly (I think my coolant temp sensor is on its way out & it turns off the A/c)

I'm about to get either a scangauge or some kind of bluetooth monitoring device. the bluetooth device seems more streamlined since I don't have to run more wires and my phone is already mounted on my dash and it's cheaper. I don't know if it has more features. it probably depends on the program. that's the way I'm leaning. I imagine if you get a good bluetooth sender then upgrades will be easier since better programs are always coming out (unless you use a win phone like me :/)

Ya I was leaning toward the Bluetooth type monitor since I have some old Iphones I could use as a permanently mounted monitoring device. Chook do you have an after market radio installed?

I use scan gauge II. Mounted it on drivers side of dash next to the A pillar. Nice unit to nanny my right foot for overuse. I bought the combo gauge pack and use the other one in my commuter (Mini Cooper). Can link the two of them in the T when wheeling to monitor more items.

I use a Scangauge II also. I have it mounted the after market dash mounted holder. There is another device by UltraGauge that is popular. Looks kinda like a small GPS unit. You may want to check it out also before you decide.

Ive been using HPT since 2006 and never came across this issue with cars or trucks that I've tuned. With aftermarket audio. Is this something specific to the H3? What's the issue with aftermarket radio and scanning/tuning that you have to pull the RDO fuse?

I need to specify; it's not the head unit that is the issue it's the door chime box that comes with the install kit. The GMOS-01 is supposed to be the most robust and work well with HP Tuners (in my case even that still tripped to door chime box), the cheap ones from Wal-mart not so much. I had one of the cheap ones at first and it took 2 hours to read the PCM, read for 3 seconds error out-set off door bell chime-read/error/chime....for 2 hours. Took me 3 GMOS-01 wiring harnesses from crutchfield to get one that worked.

To update the thread... I have received a bluetooth/wifi OBD II reader and it works great with our trucks. RDO fuse installed. No tripping door bell chime box either.

I am thinking using the HP Tuners with the 2-way communication is much more strain on the electronics. Reading and writing vs just reading (engine monitoring devices etc...)
