So what's the veridic on running an electric fan vs the clutch type on our H3s? Any affordable options or DIY advise out there?

Not as efficient at cooling as standard clutch fan. Cheapest upgrade is the one you don't have to do. Leave it as is.

Dont u have electric fans stock?

Jip, thats why I dont mind going the elextric fan route and freeing up some horses :shifty:, every last one of them counts when towing a 1,600kg (~2200lb) trailer when over landing

I have the PCM of NC electric fan kit on my Alpha and keeps it cooler vs the oem setup and it doesn't lag like a boat during the summer like it used to with the oem setup.

Been running the e-fan for a few years now. More horses freed up for use, more noise too. It used to run a little hotter with the e-fan on the hottest summer days, until I vented my hood. Now it cools fine, and fast.

USA models do not have electric fans as the OEM setup. Ours are belt driven.

Over here its both 2 electric + clutch. Ive noticed that the lag hits once temps hit 115 degrees.
I just got a scanner and noticed with my current setup that my coolant and trans temps dnt go up above 195 even under very heavy load while wheeling (ambient temp was 90).
Hopefully ill have an update in a few months once hotter weather hits.

Anyone have fans from the guy on 355Nation? I'd like to get rid of the startup roar and free up some hp's but not if the result is even louder.

Thats what I was looking at too, I'd like a few more ponies freed up before doing a tune on it.

You can hear the fan in this video.

Which fan do you have? I have the one from the guy on 355 nation and it's not that loud... Then again I went with the V8 version for the I5 the V8 version dual fan gives more clearance and draws less power it's QUIETER while giving only 200 cfm less than the I5 verson.

It was the by far the biggest improvement for my I5 to date. Both felt performance and economy. I went from 13 to maybe 14 mpg either city or freeway and now consistently get 15.5 mpg city and 18 freeway. To note with that.. I changed the waterpump and fan belt when I did the fan, so gains might have been from that too. Just made sense since I had everything apart right there anyway.....

Either way the PCMforless fan or James (supermodulation from the forums) fan should be equally a good product. I can't speak for the pcm guys but James is great to deal with in my book and his fan looks great and works great too.

If interested I can get a vid of it running tonight and post it. hood open and closed. I would recommend the V8 version even putting it in the I5 for the added clearance you get with it and the other benefits listed above.
My biggest concerns with the fan were it sounding like a leaf blower and the added draw on the alternator/battery. I was so happy to hear how quiet it was. In fact I would easily say it's quieter than the stock clutch fan I had that would be running ALL THE TIME. When the coolant gets to temp the efans run for maybe 30 seconds and then they are off. You can literally watch how fast the gauge drops :) so the draw on the battery is not bad at all for that short of run times.

1-2 mpg gain and it will have paid for itself in about a year. Depending on how much you drive. Once I did the math that's what sold it for me. And after seeing the actual real world economy improvements I'm tickled.

:) ha ha if you couldn't tell I highly recommend them.:thumbs:
Hope that helps.

I don't hear my electric fan cycle on/off while driving. I do hear it in a parking lot or while at idle and I honestly like the noise because it makes my rig different lol. I ditched the OEM weak 550AMP battery for a 930AMP Diehard Platinum Marine battery since I have a winch and I have zero issues with it. After having the PCM updated at PCM of NC the rest of the fan setup is PNP. It free's up a lot of room under the hood and makes it much easier to work on my Alpha. Temps range from 193-215 tops.

If you notice the fan doesn't even drown the noise of the motor running. It's hard to compare to someone that has the belt fan still on their truck because at least 50% of the noise of the motor running is from that damn fan going all the time. Once it's off.... you never knew your truck could run that quiet. :)
I'm hoping it conveys what it really sounds like in person. Guys my exhaust is easily 5 times louder at idle than the fan is. I hope that helps and again I recommend them to anyone looking to free up some extra ponies and of course get some better mileage.
