My transmission went out and I had a small local shop rebuild and upgrade it. Took forever because they were learning HUMMER on the fly. Apparently there are several key Hummer-specific items I had to make sure they knew about, and they still had to learn the hard way. I never knew that the whole exhaust and fender liner had to come out to get the transfer case out. The replacement pan w/drain plug wouldn't fit (an Amazon description issue) and neither would my original pan...until we got the right valve body in (a mix up on the bench with another build) but then we found the rebuild kit filter didn't fit so we had to get the correct, short filter for the H3 with the beveled end. Of course, after all that sitting around the truck wouldn't start. Jumped it and the shop test drove it but it ran rough, wouldn't turn on the radio or park the wipers, had a Stab Sys and Traction Control error msg and charging system lamp/warning, blah blah blah. After jumping and charging but still not running right, the shop is checking grounds, double-checking all their work, looking for codes and totally freaking out. After I put a new battery in to fix all the low voltage related faults and the thing STILL won't charge, shop owner is freaking out and punching walls. I run out and put a new master fuse link in it and everything ohms out but still not charging. It doesnt help that my wife is there egging him on and taking digs at him because she wanted it back already a couple months and a couple of wheeling trips ago. At this point I blow the owner's mind by crossing the battery cables and it magically fixes itself. I'm laughing inside that I know how to fix my truck better than the mechanics. You've got to know Hummers to own one, I guess and I might have avoided all the headaches altogether if I had a transmission jack and a flat driveway to start with.
