That's such a cute little break...welcome to the club! We've been waiting for you. Frankly, I'm very surprised it took you this long. I've been following your exploits for a couple years, and I've seen you shove Squeaky into places where no H3 should go. The fact that it took you this long to blow a diff is a tribute to your driving. I would say you got your money's worth from that little AAM-7. But like they say....if you're gonna play...you're gonna pay.

BTW...whats up with you California guys and your trail names? I don't see a "spring" or a "waterfall". Looks like a freakin desert to me! -LOL

A lot of these trails are covered in snow in the winter. They see their share of water. Some seasons have enoght water left over to play! Here are a few shots from that area . . .

well thanks 4speed, thats my second break. both times barely killing the pinion but I guess its enough to make it sound like its blown up.

the trail names are kinda like the santa clara river that flows through the valley I live in. Its named a river, is about 20 feet wide and has water flowing through it once a year so its a river. With 10in or less rain a year we take what we can get

So my take is this, the key to long lasting AAM-7s is wheelspin, which is with all parts and all vehicles but we need to be more careful. Both times were due to wheelspin and even then they have been minimum breaks. The crazy places I have taken squeaky is all because I will back up and adjust my line to get the least amount of wheelspin as possible. On the waterfall wheelspin will happen and you have to inch your way up. I guess it was just time. I will fix it, and start accumlating parts for my next project. That wont happen till summer.

So I have a CI case sitting in storage. Luckily my dad is on a business trip this week so I drove him to the airport and have his car for today. I have school and work so today is shot. Tomorrow I only have school so afterwords I will pull the axle disassemble it myself to save on cost bring all the parts to hoopers rear ends in sun valley. They do great work and I dont have the backlash tool to set up the diff since my buddy moved an hour away, I really need to get my own. I guess the big question is do I spend any money on this setup. Do I throw a locker in there just for ****s and giggles seeing it will be almost a year for teardown. Do I bother cryotreating the gears to give them some more strength? Idk, all stuff to think about but I cant think for too long its a DD. I can 2 wheel it but once it starts raining I wanna play. lol

Cryotreating is easily worth it, from what I hear the treatment makes the gears 15% stronger. I has to be pretty good if every single NASCAR has their ring and pinion treated.
