Dead animals (mice?) in my HVAC system. 2010 H3T 3.7

OK, so I definitely have a mouse nest, with a couple K.I.A.'s somewhere in my 3T AC system. I'm sure because my ride smells like dead creatures and as of an hour ago I have a new baby mouse that jumped out of my rig living in a shoebox in my basement (not a lot of folks can say they were born in a HUMMER so he is definitely a badazz mouse, might even keep em', lol) :whaa:. All joking aside, this is not a good situation. Some of them must have died or the mother died because my ride smells horrible esp. when I turn on the air. It makes sounds like pieces of the nest flying around in there when I turn the air on, also little particles are coming out the vent when I turn it on high. Is there any easy way to access the AC system, vents or blower motor to try and decon my ride without tearing it apart or having a $1000 tab at the shop? Anyone have any bright ideas or has anyone dealt with this before? I have seen a few threads on other forums about this issue but with out any real solutions posted. This must have just happened because it was fine a few days ago, I have to act fast before this permanently ruins my ride. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

Try putting some of the sticky traps on the floor of the truck. Have done that before with a Cad we had once. I have one that will too it though. We had a customer come in on Friday witch a cruze. There was a kitten up in the dash somewhere

That's really bad news dude.. Usually they use the insulation from the vehicle like upholstery foam to build a nest, and they piss all over inside and around it. That's prolly why it smells so bad.

Tear the dash apart or at least the cowl outside where the fresh air intake is for you're AC and you'll most likely find it.

Get rid of all of it, then leave baited traps everywhere in your garage or whatever and in the hummer for a few days.

Just had this problem last winter. The mice didn't get into the cab in my case, they built their nest over the air intake. After a week of disassembling parts I finally got it out. If there are no mice in your interior remove your glove box. You need to remove the blower assembly (which sucks but can be done) and get a bright flashlight. Shine up and at the top of the duct is a screen which is where my nest was located. If a nest is there, the next step is to remove the passenger side wheel liner. You can leave the tire on. Don't waste your time removing the grates under your wipers as there is no access to the air intake. Once you get the liner off, look towards the upper corner and you'll see a 2x4 inch hole. That's the interior air intake. I rigged up a leaf blower and a flexible vacuum hose to blow the nest out from inside. Feed the hose up as close to the screen as possible from the hole where you removed the blower motor. Then with a small diameter vacuum hose, thread it to the intake hole behind the wheel liner and suck out the nest. Repeat several times until you're sure it's all out. Good luck!

Frank, I think you might have saved me! No mice in the cab yet as far as I can tell, carpets and seats are still non smelly and intact. I WAS just going to use sleep deprivation and waterboarding on my POW mouse until he gave up his co-conspirators location- but I'll try this out tomorrow morning and hopefully that will take care of it. Um yeah, to me it looks like the frikkin' underground tunnels in the matrix behind that G-dang glove box. That blower motor is pretty large and is really crowded in there, can it fit out the side panel of the dash or the glove box? I'm fairly sure I'm going to make the repairs more expensive by breaking, losing or forgetting to reconnect something in there. I'm more of a smash it 'till it works kinda guy, so all those wires and whatnot are a little to much for me I think. I'll tinker with it but it looks like I'm headed out to the HASP tomorrow. .....like a good neighbor state farm is there....with a fully restored 1960's 4x4 with almost no electronics in it at all...Ive tried this many times today with no results, scam, lol.

You can get the blower motor out from underneath once you remove the glove box. I also removed the floor light and the side panel on the edge of the dash to access the blower screws. I can't remember where I found it but you need to rotate the blower motor to get it to drop out.

You may be able to snake a small hose through the fender hole far enough to suck the crap out too if you can't get the blower out.

Been working on it all day. I don't think I needed to mess with the wheel well, I ended up pulling the tire and liner and couldn't find the access, found the engine air intake but not any HVAC , damn 35's and fender flares made it fun though. Also pulled the glove box, blower motor, side dash cover and the plastic cover below it. Also the the two fake intakes and the cowl/vent next to the wipers and windshield. Blasted a leaf blower through the hole where the blower motor was as I could see the nest right on that screen as described in franks post. Stuck a shop vac as far as possible towards the passenger side in the void between the wipers where air seems to be sucked into the system. Low and behold a frikkin nest with a dead mouse in it popped up between the wipers! Tire, liner and flare are back on, I still have to reconnect the blower motor and dash pieces but the main goal had been achieved! Might just do the rest tomorrow, I'm in need of a celebratory beer at this point. Not sure if it was the easiest way but it saved me a huge amount of dough and the main mission is complete. Took a few pics, I'll try and get em on here in case anyone else has this issue. Cant thank you enough fellas!

Thanks again guys. Maybe this thread needs to be moved to the H3 section, now that it has been resolved. I thought I'd need some serious expertise to get this done so I figured I ask mike. I'm not sure if he wants to post up a better way to clear the HVAC of critters , but I'm fairly sure he doesnt have time to read all my jokes. I'm still learning how to speak to non-military personnel, not very successfully I must add.

My wife had this happen in her Maxima back in 2003. Had a family of mice move into the AC blower and it started to have a terrible stench. They chewed up insulation and even a couple of wiring harnesses. Car started having electrical issues, not long after we discovered the problem. I took apart the dash and ac blower and removed a huge nest of crap. Had the car professionally fumigated and repaired all visible damage to the wiring and insulation, then got rid of the car and traded it in. I hope that never happens again, that was a terrible thing to deal with.

Well, still no stench when I checked it this morning! I think I caught it in time! Also forgot I have a new in the box complete H3T cloth interior sitting in my basement (ebay $40 bucks! about a year ago), so I guess if it was real bad I'd just switch all the upholstery out, remove the carpet and replace it with line-x... almost too bad cause if it stinks so bad the wife hates it I could finally paint it in C.A.R.C. woodland camo!:giggle:

Ill re-check for mouse milk stains...definitely have reg. milk stains in the back seat from my kid spillin' everywhere from his car seat....I do appreciate your consideration and hope to someday join such a prestigious group.
