You could do a dual battery tray and run two batteries. There's a seller on ebay selling trays pretty cheap. I'm looking into diehard batteries when mine finally croaks. If you want to you can isolate one battery. I have dual batteries and one is isolated for my radios. I don't have to worry about killing the starting battery while camping. I haven't really been concerned about my alternator because it seems to do a good job so far.

Diehard Platinum 34, Optima Red Top 34, are the two batteries I've got in my H3's. I kept the bottom box, but removed the lids. Any size 34 battery should fit, and some would only require trimming the small fins in the lower tray. Advantages of the 34 vs 86 battery is it's more common, and you have more choices.

Auto Zone gold plated bling are actually good terminals. On my 08 Hummer redesigned the battery terminals vs say an 06/07. I was able to slap in the Diehard Platinum into the 08 without any issues. On the 07 even after changing the terminals I couldn't install a Diehard Platinum. With the way the terminals go over the battery it wouldn't allow the terminals to go down far enough onto the post for a good solid bite due to the terminals bottoming out on the top of the battery. So in my 07 I slapped in an Optima Red Top battery and the terminal design is perfect vs the Diehard. Optima's haven't had a good rap lately, but it's been in my wife's 07 for almost a year now with not a single hiccup.
