H3 Backwoods custom H3 bumper build thread

After breaking the wheel well and backside of the OEM bumper plastic back in january

i set out on a search for a bumper and looking for something not as bulky as a ARB per say. I stumbled acrossed a Thorparts bumper and really liked i discussed with CJ on maybe redesigning his version. I set out to build a mock up to give him an idea what i had in mind.

All my dimensions were rough measured with the stock bumpers on it

He said i could buy one and mod it to fit my needs. I was getting ambitious so i went out and purchased a 4x10 sheet of 10ga. Steel

Now I went out and started cutting the chunks of steel these based on my dimension drawings

Next up was remembering i couldnt weld all that good in highschool well not muxh has changed in 3 years lol

Built the base without even test fitting took off my OEM bumper last night and put the base on so i could get the rear brackets at the correct angle

Make sure to leave about a 1/2" between the top of your bumper and the bottom of the grille. The body does move and flex quite a bit, separately from the frame.

No i had an iccedent with the power washer

I cut em to leave that 1/2 opening for flex already thanks forbthe heads up tho i appreciate input on this stuff ...my firat fab job

Looks good. Make sure you have enough of a gap there to account for the flexing between the body and the frame. You might be fine; can't tell from your pics.
