H3 35's with 18's or 20's?

Next month i'll be upgrading my tires to 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers along with Moto Metal 962 wheels. I just cant make up my mind whether to get 18" wheels or 20" wheels. I attached an H3 with 20" Moto Metal 962's and 35's on it. Now the question is 18"s or 20"s?

Do you wheel it? Most people that plan to wheel their trucks won't go over a 17" wheel with 35s. You lose the sidewall flex with the larger rims.

I do very light off-roading. I live in Florida there aren't any mountains here just swamps.

I have 20s and I haven't been on some hardcore trails like some of these guys but I have out mine through the paces without issue...

I vote 16/17 in rim. I'd only run 20s for a 40 in tire and if you could run a big brake kit

My thinking has always been the less wheel or rim you run the lesser the chance you have of damaging one offroad..Being you're in Florida and not likely to be playing in or even finding a rock garden I'm thinking you would be ok with the larger..

I say go small which is just a personal preference.. :thumbs:

Width is important also........I run 16x8's with my 35s and would not go any bigger than 17s.......... With a smaller wheel you have a bigger sidewall on the 35" tire......... When you air down a bigger sidewall tire you get a much bigger footprint which is great for sand driving. (Florida had plenty of sand when I was there last time!!!)

I vote you keep your money and just use the factory rims. If you need the rims to look different, take them off and get them powder coated black. Because in my personal opinion, anyone that's rolling around with anything more than 17 inch rims with a tire size under 39 inches is showing how little they know about off-roading and at the same time saying I'm stupid with my money.

When you say off-roading, do you mean trails with logs and such? Rocks, boulders? My definition off-roading in Louisiana deer hunting trails, rice fields, and cotton fields. Lots and lot and lots of mud. I personally don't like them but seeing that he is from Florida, 20's will work just fine. Go with 18's if those are your only choices.

The PO put 20's and 37's on my T and I will be dropping down to 17's and 37's once my rubber wears out.... Too much bling for me and I really don't care for that look.... 20's and 37's have the same side wall as 16's and 33's so I don't consider it a bad combo but I wouldn't have any smaller tire then that on 20's

Not everyone has to or wants to offroad. I personally have 17s on mine with 35s. It works for me, but to call someone else's idea of what they like or need as being stupid is very stupid in my opinion. Im sure there are a lot of folks with 20s on there trucks in this forum that put a lot of research, time, and their money(not yours) into what they believe is perfect for them.

Ive seen a friend of mine wheel his truck with a 20" wheel on 34s setup. Not much flex but he cld do it, and still roll in style on the streets. Offcourse wheeling here is 99% dune sand. The guy asked a specific question, all we need to do is answer it.
I personally like big meaty tires, so 35s on 18s wld look great, esp if its a wide wheel ur using.

Sympathy, I need none. Everyone has their right to their own opinion, I'm just not big on bashing something that I don't agree with. This will be my last post on this matter, didn't mean to high jack the thread. Go with what will suit your needs best and what you like. Now I'm off to Burger King to grab a fish sandwich.

Josh, why/what are you on the fence about?

If it is aesthetics, you are the one buying them and that will have to look at them every day.....Buyers choice.

Wheeling is not a concern, accommodating a lift or big azz brakes aint a concern.

Get what pleases your eye.

Is cost of any concern?

I could not believe the differences in price when I looked these damn things up.

One could also argue that the H3 design also had a significant amount of on road performance in mind otherwise it would probably have a solid front axle. If you increase the tire diameter you should also increase the wheel diameter to maintain the on road performance as it was designed.

Reality is 90-95% of the time these "offroad" trucks roll on streets and highways. So looks are important.
I have h2 with Toyos 38x15.5x20 -works very well, but with rim being 12" (aesthetics) I get rim rash on rocky trails.
h3 has Nittos 35s on 20" rim not a lot of flex but tires are much softer so it works well too.
GMC has 40x12.5 on 17" bead locks -in my opinion it looks stupid,calipers don't fit inside wheels so my brake rotors are completely exposed and they have 2" spacers.
If I can get 20" bead locks I'll be switching for 40x15.5x20 with 20x12" rim.
