    Rusted rocker panels

Sometimes it's just as easy and quicker to fab some up from scratch, if you know someone with a sheet metal bender. An HVAC sheet metal shop can make them up quick. Or use a smaller bending brake like THIS and just bend a couple sections up and weld them together. A buddy of mine had to...

    H3 Transmission dead?

Related story: The guy I bought my Jetta TDI from years ago, sunk a bunch of money into the auto tranny. They're a common fail point on those cars and it went out ~90k miles. Course, like many people, the owner turned around and put the car up for sale like a week after he got it back from the...

    H3 Transmission dead?

Bummer. Actually, that's not too far off what I was expecting it to be. You might ask them if they have a rebuilder line they work with. Some (many) shops partner or work with a supplier which does transmission rebuilds on a larger scale. Going that route it's more 'pre-packaged' and immediate...

    Bought used front diff,help

It would be a good idea to pull off the front cover and look inside. Check out the gears, etc. They're probably in good condition, but you never know. Look the housing over real careful for hairline cracks in the housing since it was in a wreck ...and any possible damage inside. One wear point...

    Bought used front diff,help

I would wiggle the driver's side inner CV to see how much slop there is. And if there's a notable amount (which there may well be), replace the two bearings and maybe even the stub shaft (and maybe the collar) on that side. If it was mine I'd replace all the seals.

    What’s the big deal?

Actually, there's really no big deal. I'd much rather have the Lux pkg that was in good conditions, than the Adv (if I had to choose). The Monsoon stereo is 5x better than the base. Or just get a base and add in yer own newer stereo, locker & 33" tires. And put some Bilsteins on it. Then you...

    What’s the big deal?

I think the springs are the same. Pretty sure GM used to list different shocks for the Adventure pkg (correct me if I'm wrong, someone). They're mono-tubes I believe made by Bilstein. The adventure package gives you the 4:1 gear ratio trans fer case for 4lo, which sounds good, but IMO is only of...

    H3 Transmission dead?

Have you read the Hummer H3 Launch book HERE? In it, a GM person (I forget..proj mgr??) indicated the H3 ended up containing about 15% parts from the Colorado. The rest unique. It's a good read if you haven't read it. Kind of a Must-Read for a H3 enthusiest. Your library might have it. But...

    H3 Transmission dead?

Quoting a Transmission repair is kind of like quoting a home furnace/AC repair over the phone. Did a $20 igniter or flame rod fail, or does the homeowner need a new heat exchanger or AC compressor? Two ends of the spectrum. I'm kind of looking forward to hearing what they say. Mine's got 200k...

    H3 Transmission dead?

Ok, that's encouraging to hear. Yeah, sounds like the second shop has a good operation. Hope the price is in your wheel house. Should be good for as long as you own it once rebuilt.

    H3 Transmission dead?

"Your tranny is definitely shot" ..or something along those lines isn't good enough. I would expect they would provide some specifics or explanation of their findings, fluid pressures, etc ....and what part of the transmission they feel *actually* failed? Did they give you a price for a rebuild?

    H3 Transmission dead?

Since you do a lot of your own de-bugging, and seem to have quite a bit being thrown your way, moving up to a scan tool with bi-directional capabilities might come in handy and be a worthwhile investment, at some point. The scanner allows ya to run HVAC system, gauge cluster, lights, Radio...

    H3 Transmission dead?

What do you have for a scan tool? If you're going to be into H3's for the long haul, consider getting a Tech II (even used import version), or good (updated) Snap-on, etc. Something with bi-directional ability to toggle switches/features, on your Rig. Helps troubleshooting. Maybe you already...

Yeah, that might have been him. 🤔

    H3 Transmission dead?

Sorry ...seems like a lot of things going the wrong direction these days. See what the shop finds. If it shifts 1-2-3 ok, probably not the torque converter. Could be a 3-4 shift solenoid too. IDK. I had a Chrysler RFE tranny which had a problem like which had high-gear shifting problems. There...

You're sure the Xfer case wasn't in low range ....right? Sorry to ask an obvious question ...but just in case.

    H3 Transmission dead?

If it's not one thing, it's another ...Dang!! Are the RPM's going high? Does it seem to slip in high gear, or all gears? Have you replaced the fluid lately (that could be the prob)? 1) I guess if it were mine, I'd first check the trans & vehicle for any codes. You never know. Obviously the...

    H3 I CANNOT Tow apparently

IDT these are good tow vehicles. Small trailers ok, but not like a car trailer or a substantial load. Not for any distance. These vehicles just don't handle or brake well enough IMO. Use a pick-up with some weight in the rear, or rent one from U-Haul for $20 ..half a day. There was a forum...

    Front Differential Bushings

I've done a bunch of off-roading with the stock bushings. Never had any problems. Sure mine was worn out at 150k...but that's not too bad. Easy to replace. Buy new ones on ebay for $12 or whatever they are. I wouldn't over-think it personally.
