:hmm:??? .... I thought H3 with 35" tires, the 4.56:1 is better than 4:1? Am I wrong?

The 4.56 gearing is in the differentials. Base T case (non adventure package) H3s have 2.64:1 4lo gearing while adventure H3s have 4:1 4lo gearing

Can I just buy the 4:1 gear and swap it in the base T-case?

David, people have researched the parts needed to do the swap and it is more expensive than buying a new case, or at least close to that expense. Buy the 4:1 and keep the original as a backup.

yep, alrock is right. When reloader priced it out I think it ended up being less then 100 bucks saved. Atleast with the new case its an easy swap and you have the spare.

oh.. ok.

1.having a new T-case, I can just install it on my H3, right? do I need to program something?
2.so 4.56:1 is in the front and rear diffs and its same on each non-adv. and adv. ?

F5 is the one that can really answer this one. If I'm not mistaken you can just swap it, but in 4Lo you might get some errors due to the gearing being lower and not matching speedo. The dealer is supposed to be able to reprogram, but I would suggest you talk to them first.

I spoke to F5 IIRC I think the speedo is off but at such low speeds Im sure its barely noticeable. I gotta look up the old post to be sure though.

The PCM or TCM (as the case may be) needs to know the t-case gear ratio to shift properly in low range. So, yes, you need to program something.

Dealer had to reprogram my transfer case control module as I was having all kinds of SERV 4WD and flashing lights errors when the new t-case went in. Of course, I've been told on here that that they didn't likely program anything but just fixed something that they may not have properly connected.

Yes, all non-Alphas have 4.56 in the diffs. Alphas have 4.10

where can you get a 4:1 transfer case and how much are they?

I should have a price and part number sometime next week fom the dealer, as it looks like this is going to be my Birthday gift to myself from my wife (she just doesn't know it yet)! I figured I'll let her know what she got me after it's here and installed on the T! :giggle:

...the old saying - "It's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission", seems to be more accurate than not when you're thinking about expensive mods for your rig...come to think about it, for most things! :emb:

There's a company who sells new 4944's on Ebay for $1000+shipping. (1 year no mileage warranty)

I check Ebay often, I saw one for $599 last year (a good one, there's one with a hole on there right now for 550ish you could get gears from) so I'm hoping to find a similar deal again. Last year there were 5 or so NR6 (4944) cases on there at a time... now I've only seen one in the last month other than these two.
